Does "見失ってしまう" refer to the sadness or to oneself? In other words, do people lose sight of sadness or do they lose sight of themselves?

Reading this, I'd interpret it as people losing sight of the future, with sadness flowing out and blurring vision.

And also:
重ね合った心の奥に
喜びと悲しみ 温もりと憎しみ

Does "重ね合った" refer to the hearts or to the emotions?

Oh, OK. I was thinking too straightforwardly. The "pile up" was inside of where 2 hearts or souls came together, within which were the emotions.

Losing sight of the future/one's way in life makes all the sense, though...

Like epigene said, think of "重ね合った心の奥に / 喜びと悲しみ / 温もりと憎しみ" as below.

心の奥に 喜びと悲しみ、（そして）温もりと憎しみ（を）重ね合った。

As with many song lyrics, the way these lines are constructed (or deconstructed) makes a little tricky to figure out what they are trying to say.

If it rains the match will be stopped. (The rules forbid it so they have to stop it.)

If it rains the match might be stopped. (Depends on how heavy rain and on referee's judgement, so no one knows in advance.)

The article basically introduces a 2011 taiga drama in which actress Ueno Juri will play the lead role, "Gou".

1. She says "最近『龍馬伝』を見始めたばかりで（大河主演の）実感は全然無いですが、前向きな江を演じたい". I understand the first part to mean something like "I've just started watching Ryomaden and I still haven't realized that I'm starring in the next Taiga drama." But what does the last part mean? "I want to perform an optimistic Gou"?

2. "「お互いに頑張りましょう」と書面でエールを送られる" Does 書面 mean that the person who is cheering for her wrote an actual letter on paper?

3. "元々、他局のドラマの撮影期間前後にオファーを受けたという" What does that mean? I find it really really confusing...

4. のだめカンタービレ』（フジテレビ系）では"猫背"姿をお茶の間に見せていたが「今度はシュッとすまして、日本の女性を演じたい」と意気込んだ。What does "シュッとすまして" mean?

5. "優秀俳優を表彰する『エランドール賞』のスタッフで見かけした際に、「雰囲気に惹かれた」という。" DOes this mean that "in the event that the Elan d'or Award staff happened to see...?" I'm not sure exactly what this statement means...

Yes, neither by the video message nor coming to the press conference, but by the message on paper.

Originally she was offered the roll around during shooting of other TV station's drama.

Probably she wanted to say something like "straightening up."

Thus, when 屋敷陽太郎 was a staff of the Elan d'or Award, he saw her in the event.

BTW, 見かけした際 is grammatically incorrect. It should be お見かけした際(honorific) or 見かけた際(plane).

前向き is the same sense being used both for 江 (and herself) in the final paragraph. ;-). I'll leave the water business to an expert. haha
