MEXT Scholarship for Postgraduate 2010: General Discussions.

i've reading this thread, and started to worry because many of know the result. and just 5 mn ago while i was thinking if i should email to my professor or not, i recieved the call from the embassy and yes i'm am accept :p😄😄
as dalmatian mentioned i was asked if i still want to go to Japan or not LoL
 
I've been lurking this thread for a year - it's great to finally see the good news flowing in, so I finally went in to my embassy for an update.
My contact disappeared for 20 min and eventually came back and casually said "good news - you've passed".
I had a LOA from a private uni (Sophia) as first choice and a public (Geidai) as second - looking forward to hearing where they finally placed me.

To the ones who already received good news: おめでとうございます

On Monday I asked my embassy when the final announcements will be made and maybe because of my request I received a mail on Tuesday where I was told that I was not selected for the scholarship. Today I received another email from the embassy where they informed me that another applicant declined the scholarship. So nothing is final yet and I still can hope ...

And the others in the same situation: がんばって

Did embassy asked any confirmation.? Was there any text in the mail sent by them?
Do reply as soon as possible.
I will appreciate if from now onwards we can be in constant touch.

I've also waited for a call now from the embassy in sweden about the proffessional training college programme. It is nice to hear the good news from y'all.

Hope they call me soon also :P
 
I've been following this thread and getting more and more nervous since I hadn't heard anything. Today I received the good news and figured it was time to register:)

I've applied to go over in October, my first choice is Waseda, and I study psychology. Are there any other people going to Waseda or doing something psychology related?

I received the so called 'official letter'. But the content is confusing, perhaps i need some opinion from u guys.

'Please be informed that you have been tentatively selected as a successful candidate to pursue your postgraduate study in Japan under the MEXT scholarship 2010.

Presently, the MEXT is in the process of considering the placement of university based on the field of study you applied. Once we received the final confirmation, we will forward the notice to you immediately.

Please take note that if there is none of the university can accept your application due to your field of study and etc, Mext has right to cancel the scholarship offered to you."

My doubt :
1. Tentatively selected as a successful candidate? so ?? it's tentative or successful?
2. My uni has accepted me apparently. So, is that mean there'd be no changes, i am in? ?

arrrgh. After 98562551783214 days of waiting. the confirmation is still '' not so official''. I m desperate.
 
I have a question that has been troubling me for a little while, I wonder if someone who has already got the scholarship could help me out:
In general, do scholarship recipients work while studying?
I understand that you are allowed to work while on a college student visa with permission from the university (although that sounds tricky to get). I recently read an information booklet from JASSO that stated that 81% of college students work part time.

I also understand that the reason we are in Japan is to study, not work. However, being able to support my studies and lifestyle financially is important to me, and I've done it ever since I started studying. Being able to do things like fund study trips and buy materials (my studies are quite technology intensive) are surely good reasons to be earning some supplemental money. Do supervisors/universities see it this way?
Also we wouldn't be going to a completely different country just to hide in a lab 24/7 (I hope!), having some money to travel in our limited time off would make all the hard work worthwhile, right?
What do you think? Who else is planning on trying to get part-time work?

That sounds a lot like what I have been told. Basically, my letter said:
"your application for the MEXT Scholarship for 2010 has been successful, subject to your acceptance by an appropriate university in Japan where you may pursue your research studies. Monbukagakusho will begin negotiating with appropriate universities and we will notify you of the final university placement in around February"
To me it sounds like we are in as long as our university placements are confirmed. Don't worry too much Pasta, not long to wait now!

Please take a peek to some old thread...I found that most Malaysian, if not all, who received those so called "Tentative letter" were end up...in Japan. An yes they did share some of your disappointment because the letter was not so official-like, complaining the lack of any decoration and all but Hey...It was a really really good sign

I must say I don't have any thought about part time. I have prior experience with Korean Professor and look what he did to me regarding the Lab hour, weekday : 09.00-21.00 and in Saturday : 09.00-19.00
I assumed I will face the same condition in Japan so part time seems out of question.

I read also some study guide pdf from Jasso websites and they wrote : to do part time you must obtain consent from the uni. and the earned income is meant to supplement your academic cost and necessary expense
I believe we don't have any problem with academic cost and perhaps if our monthly stipend is not enough to cover our "necessary expense", I guess it is possible to do part time

Okay, to me the letter sounds like one step better.

Probably 1% extra than the earlier stage. Lol. only 1%.

Btw,I will definitely find my way to work there. But I think my area there is bit rural. lol.

and I haven't go thru the Jasso thingy.

But, can i do any preparation now? example like.. u know the JPY vs MYR showing a weakening sign right now. best time to hedge. I foresee by Mar it's going to be strengthen again.

I am so tempted to buy some JPY now, but I am reluctant coz what if i am ...

Ah..I see.. JPY, this is my just my 2 cents but if we must to think about the worst case scenario, and yes we do must think about it, just think this as investment, the same as we buy/sell Dollar.

So I never think all the things I do right now for preparation, e.g study Japanese and all, is a vain. It always has a meaning..and my personal opinion it's actually healthier for me to think like that ^^
 
@pasta: Congratulations! I think we can safely see this as a "ok-go!" letter. =) It is safer to start preparing a little ahead of the "official" conformation because we would surely be in a 100% chaos later on when it comes to buying and packing stuff to Japan.

@Rica: I definitely need a part time job to fund my study materials as well. I'm always tempted to buy academic books... hehe

Just wanted to share the same good news that I got the call from the Embassy of the "still" un-official and un-finall confirmation; they told me that the Confirmation Letter arrived but the FINAL FINAL confirmation will be arriving around mid Feb
I suppose we are all in the same situation
They've also asked me if I sitll wanted to go to Japan lol!

Congratulations to everybody qulaified this valuable MEXT scholarship!

I am Adel from Oman,, Japan Emabassy in Muscat has finally annouced the scholarship holders in Aug 2009, i am luckly qualified it :p

Thanks i saw this forum to contact and learn about Japan. I am looking to get admitted in Tohoku University, Sendai.

Any advice
Anybody enrolled in Tohoku Uni or living in sendai?
