How would I say "I hate you" on Japanese?

...but when you tell someone that you hate them, the main point is that they understand that the mere thought of them makes your skin crawl. Why would you want to tell them in Japanese? Do they understand Japanese?

Plus, HATE is a strong word. I wouldn't feel right teaching a 12 year old how to say such a thing in Japanese.

What have they done to you? Were they mean to you in school?

You need to conjugate the verb when you combine it with たい.

たのしむ ＋ たい ＝ たのしみたい

Perfect, I'd say. What you have in ( ) is necessary for this to sound natural. If you want to say "things" in general, you use something like "monogoto / 物事". Also, you could substitute hito/人 with more polite "kata / 方" to further express respect for someone who is older and more experienced.

How about using 餌（えさ）instead of food? 食べ物を食べる sounds just a bit repetitive to me. Also, I think it is safe to do away wih 自分の.

猫が餌を食べているのを見ました。

As for the second one (and the first one also), the action of the obect (cat, people) is in the progressive form, right?

人々が話しているのを聞きました。

I'm not 100% sure as it has been decades since my last English grammar lesson but there IS a difference between "I saw him eating" and "I saw him eat", no?

Good try.

猫が食べ物を食べているのを見ました。
人々が話しているのを聞きました。

Unless you want to emphasize the "its" before "food" (not other's, or not mine, for instance), you do not need to mention it in Japanese.
食べえるのを見ました、話すのを聞きました are also OK, the above are to describe that the action is on-going while you watched/heard.

Ahh, okay. I didn't think to put it in the ～ている form.
Just a follow up question: If i were using, say, the verb "to go" rather than "to eat" or "to speak," would it still be in the ～ている form? Like, 男の人が行くのを見ました。 or 男の人が行っているのを見ました。 ??

And I don't really know if there's a difference. They convey the same meaning to me, I think... I'm not an expert at English grammar haha

Seems to me like it'd have to be a more specific verb, like a manner of going. "Walking," "running," "crawling," "jogging," "driving a car," "riding a bike," etc. all seem like much better options to me, because I'm not sure I understand what it means to see someone "go." Go where, exactly?
