Hi I want to know what is the district name for the surrounding rural area around Tokyo? I am not talking about the next neighborhood by Shinjuku or Setagaya or Ota. I am most interested in the names for the very far outskirts of the city and the farmland surrounding it. To give you an idea I mean a place that would take 30-40 min by train to get to Tokyo city center.
I am interested in buying land and building a large traditional Japanese residence/Shinto shrine temple with adequate land surrounding it for ponds, forest, garden, etc.
Just so you know I am only interested in preferably buying a house like one of these pictures below with plenty of land surrounding it for gardens and walking and be outside Tokyo for easy travel. I would like to know which real estate company in Japan specializes in these kind of properties for sale in the country NOT the city. I am not interested in renting or leasing only buying.
Are there any websites I could find information about this?

I'm sorry to say that 30 to 40 minutes by train from central Tokyo won't get you out into the rural areas in most directions--unless you take the Shinkansen line!

Hummm???

You must be the guy who won that last POWERBALL for $300 million.

Hachioji, close to Mt. Takao, is an area considered "rural" by the locals, and is still in Tokyo, west of the city. Yamanashi prefecture would probably be more to your liking; I stayed at a summer cabin there and it was gorgeous. A friend of mine lives in a very rural area of Gunma, and is roughly 2 hours from Tokyo. Her rent is shockingly cheap.

OP....have you ever been to Tokyo?

How about the Kansai region, let's say near Kyoto or Wakayama or Mie... those places are pretty nice and got some rural parts and aren't to far from Osaka either.

his profile says "never been to Japan".
That doesn't say that much for newbies.... lol :p

Yes, but your location says Japan...so saying never been to Japan isn't really working for you! :)

Not much choice on that. We require the correct location under "Country/State of residence" or you receive an infraction. We try hard to make sure the flag under a member's name shows their true location.

OH come on guys !! I was hoping to hear of some rual areas within the Tokyo region...

So now I guess the verdict is you've got to move to good ole fashioned SHINSHU !! Yes, we are just at the outskirts ...oh, you can skip Yamanashi prefecture...of Tokyo !!

Shinano was one area, and had been given to Monogusataro by the crown prince, but his two sons divided the region basically by two...later taken by Shin....oh what' his name....

Alas...but for my lack of historical knowlege of Japan.

Oops sorry i may have put the cart before the horse here. I did goto Tokyo about 2 years ago and I know pretty much a ton of geography on Akiba and Shinjuku and a little Roppongi and Oedo. But the names are unfamiliar to me when people talk about various neighborhoods like Koiwa, Meidaimae, etc because their not as well known as Shinjuku, Shibuya, etc.

What about a small residential neighborhood like Meidaimae? Is that place cheaper to buy a house than in Shinjuku?

it'd be good to know what kind of budget you are working from. Land isn't exactly "cheap" in and around Tokyo.

Bill Gates would wince at the cost of what you propose....even out in the boonies of Japan. Are you made of money?

Hey but I watched a LOT of manga and anime where a high school student lives in a palace like a big *** temple complete with koi ponds, garden and walls that was abandoned that he just happens to find/or his family owns or one of those huge Western style mansions in an upper class residential area on a hill!

Surely that kind of thing must be common right?

troll much?
