there are a lot of places where you could go! Tokyo is the capital of japan but it isn't really attractive for people who are alllready familiar with japan, i guess yo could go to kansai or to hokkaido to search your own small measure of peace.
Im just beeing myself, i help people with everything i can, even if it isn't helpfull im still here to lend a hand! you as israelian soldier have to know, that we japanese don't surrender easily! ;-)
It's endless But one place I could recommend at least, is Arashiyama in Kyoto . Take a bag full of nice food with you, and go deep to the mountains. Descend down the slope to the river, and have a perfect picnic in the middle of green luscious mountains and the flowing water, cranes jumping around you...
Kyoto has many nice sights, but I think Kinkakuji is an overrated tourist trap. A gold painted little pavilion doesn't make it into the "the most amazing place in japan".
If you wanna see shiny gold stuff go to Thailand. Traditional Japanese architecture is all about the woodwork. Nara is pretty cool for that same reason.
