Why is Yaoi Appealing

Ok, I just can't figure it out. Why in the world do girls (guys?) like this stuff and how do they appreciate it? I fail to find anything artistic in Yaoi, because it's two guys making out on stage! Really, to me, this is no better than girls watching two gay men kissing, so why do people find this acceptable/amusing/entertaining.
In your answer please make to specify, why you find it entertaining and how it entertains you. I've seen so many posts just saying "soo cute~" etc., but I never see a reason... it just casts me deeper into the quandary.

For me fanservice and yaoi are two seperate things, mostly because in fanservice they are faking it and in yaoi they are really gay...
But to answer your question; two men together is fun to watch because they are men and we are straight women who get happy over that type of things.
We like to see pretty boys doing naughty things to eachother.

For starters yaoi just isn't two guys making out on stage. You're thinking of fanservice yaoi. Another point, is the thing about yaoi is that the men don't have to be gay (and often times, they're not).

How it entertains me? Well, I like it. Yaoi has always fascinated me, especially the stories and the artwork. There is also some history behind yaoi that have alot to do with homosexuality in Japan.

You ask whether this is acceptable, well it doesn't bother me the least when two young men are kissing. I do know that it bothers alot of other people.

There is alot to this genre and people have actually tried to figure out why girls in their mid to late teens and women in their twenties find yaoi appealing. There are many different reasons why it's appealing. One reason for example is that young women (I'm talking about American young women) like yaoi because it offers them something that American comics generally don't. And as you know, American comics cater mainly to a male audience.
Personally, I don't understand why women who like yaoi have to explain why they find it appealing. But you wanted to know.

Um...because I'm a (somewhat young?) gay male? Actually, I like seeing less "restrictive" affection, whether it's on stage, tv, or books. Growing up in the 80s in a western society where such things were condemned, it's refreshing to see such things. Then again, seeing a vocalist go down on his guitarist is just hot (usually). See, I'd have to ask most people, and I have, just to be a *****, why straight porn keeps their attention, and how.

Hmm...I don't think I've ever thought of why I find it appealing. I guess I just do, though I do agree that the whole forbidden factor probably has to do something with it. I do like the storylines a lot, hence why I sometimes write and read yaoi fics most of the time. Still, I wish I could explain it in detail to you so that you could gain more understanding, but really, it's just hott.

Answer: Because it's hot. ^ ^ It's just the total opp. of guys that like Yuri but us girls, don't understand why some guys think that girlongirl is hot. ^ ^ That is how life works. XD

Imo there r different reasons for it:
1. Same as why guys like girl-on-girl... one hot guy = sexy; two hot guys doing sexual things = sexier.
2. [generally for younger women/girls] Getting a kick out of seeing sexy goings-on between hot guys (as above) but without the "threat" of having to engage with it themselves... if the guys really are gay, they won't be interested in her...
3. What Morning Masamune said ^^ - girls liking the idea of a kind of 'affection', 'friendship' sort of 'love', together with a sort of idea that the 'ideal' man doesn't have to be all macho but could be gentle and sensitive and that kind of thing.

Phew, all this 'analysis' from someone who isn't even into yaoi/shounen-ai/fanservice... ☝ (I don't like competition, not even same-sex competition... )

i dont' know whon knbows this, but i'm gunna say it anyways, cos i like sounding smatr oh: XD

basically... waaaaaaaay back when Japan was under 'lock down' as it were, an women were still being 'sold' and such... there were places called 'pleasure quaters' (basically ***** houses). sex was basically the most common pass time in Japan, and the plesure qaters were one of the welthiest industries around... and often centered around the aristocrasy and high government of Japan too. anyways... to get to my point...

preiset were not aloud to consort with women (well, they coudl talk to them but that was it) however, in theri religions teachings, tehre was nothing disalowing them to interect with males. the plesure quaters would compromise to this, and often took in young boys and dressed them to look like girls. the priests could do whatever they wanted with them and everyone whent home happy (though i can imagin the young boys weren't quite so 'happy' ^^; )
anyways... we all forget that Japan wasn't brought into civilisation under christina teachings and rulles like most developed worlds were. homosexuality wasn't a bad thing there... mind you... faithfulness was... if a man was faiful to one woman he was told to pull himself together and get a misstress ^^; but still... no-one though any worse of 2 guys together, and as for women, it was oftn the case that the older women in the pleasure quaters would teach the younger ones the ways of 'pleasing a man' ^^;

... actually, the term 'yuri' used for the girlXgirl henai style comes from the name of a lesbian tribe in Japan... which makes more sence when you think about it... because why they'd call it 'lilly' i have no idea ^^;

ezactly the same about 2 girls kissing... the fact that it >is< so 'out of the norm' is a big thing, everyone wants what they can't have, and when somethings wrong, that instantly makes you want it... simple reverse psycology.

someone mentioned before that when they watch 2 girls they think it's hott but want to join in... imagin if you KNEW those girls were doping it... just to get your attention... it had nothing to do with the fact that they were attracted to eachother, it was simply to get yourattention and your reaction...

I can't really say (or explain) WHY I like seeing that kind of thing...

And I don't think most people know why they do either. Yes the fact that it seems 'forbidden' is, shall I say, 'seductive' (?) to us and as some people have put it One hot guy(or girl) x another hot guy(or girl) is well, just that much hotter!

But I like it more then just because it's hot, though I can't really pin point why or anything. Yaoi stories to me just have that little something extra that make them seem different from other genres(though I read pretty much anything provide it catches my attention!) and the Fanservice, it just THAT much different from all those bands we have here and that the media pollutes our stations with.

We all want to see something different (that's we read things like mangas, that's why we look at Foreign music) and for some, I think, that's just what ended up being the most attractive thing.

Good point there. It annoys me how 2 guys and 2 girls kissing etc. is any different, apart from the sexes. Or any different from a guy and girl, if we're talking about this in a heterosexual or homosexual way.

I don't think it is 'out of the normal'. 2 guys, or 2 of the same sexes kissing etc. has been going on for a very very very long time now, and it has gone on for so long that is SHOULD be a normal thing. Seriously, think about it...
Ah I had to say that.. Things like these annoy me. I wish people would accept homosexuality as such and just get over all of it. That's for people who are disturbed by this kind of thing.
