Many members have wondered and asked who did what behind the scenes of JREF. In an effort of transparency, and to make it easier to contact the right admin, I will briefly explain who is in charge of what between Thomas and I.

Thomas

In charge of :

- technical issues, such as server problems, forum upgrades, plug-ins and hacks, such as the chat, or new functionalities (e.g. infraction system)
- JREF Directory
- Japan Banner Exchange
- Topsites Japan
- JREF Awards
- JREF Classifieds

Maciamo

In charge of :

- site design in general (drop menus, Flash maps, etc.)
- writing content articles outside the forum
- keeping the forum alive and create controversy ( 😊 )
- uploading new avatars, smileys or regional flags on the forum
- create new categories on the forum and gallery, and reorganise all the threads/photos to the right categories from time to time.
- JREF shop
- advertising & finance

Shared responsibility of all admins and moderators

- ban spammers, trolls and trouble-makers
- delete spam and very offensive threads (and occasionally offtopic, flaming or irrelevant posts)
- move threads to the right category/subforums in posted in the wrong one
- close threads that have gone out of hand
- split threads going offtopic (mostly done by Maciamo)
- merge similar threads (rare)
- give warnings or infractions to people not respecting the forum rules
- check multi-account abuses (automatically found by the forum script, but merger or deletion of accounts can only be done by a Team Member)
- check for flag location abuses

Please note that the responsibilities of the admins and mods are part and parcel of the moderation process. Please refrain from criticising or abusing admins/mods who follow these guidelines.

hey hey where can we view this, ive always had to do it manually.

Thank you Maciamo, for opening this thread, as I feel that much transparancy is a healthy thing. In the inner chambers of my heart, I will nevertheless reveal, I would have hoped (and this is simply a concept) that Thomas would have opened such a thread, however.

AND...then a question for you Maciamo san...
Please refrain from criticising or abusing admins/mods who follow these guidelines.
(bold mine)

What are we of the on-line community to have in regardsto handling those team members who abuse these guidlines or powers--a charge I would never level against Thomas, of course? Is there any thing on this matter? This is also of grave concern, my fellow communal citizen. 👍 :)

Thank you very much for the clarification.👍

However, I still cannot figure out who is responsible of "Buddy / Ignore Lists". I really need to add someone on my list and have already tried once but failed with some reason. And I would appreciate it so much if the settings there would be changed a bit.

So, who shall I ask to do that or at least ask to inform me if the change is possible or not?

You can ignore/buddy everyone that you want to, EXCEPT: Moderators and Admins.

This will not be changed, I think.

For example: You put me on your ignore list, and than you will post something wrong (let's say a link to the new Spiderman movie, a Torrent) as a moderator I am the one to tell: "you shouldn't do that anymore you bad girl" , but if I am on your ignore list... how can you see that?

(so that's as far as I know one of the reasons that it will probably won't be changed, SORRY😌)

In the Multiple Account Alerts in the Staff Exchange.

This, along with all other technical problems, such as not being able to upload an avatar, is part of Thomas' field of expertise.

I doubt that she wanted to add a mod/admin, otherwise there would have been an explicit message saying that mods/admins cannot be in the ignore list. What's more she also referred to the buddy list, and there is no restriction for mods/admins. So it must be a technical issue.

haha oh yeah :p but that thing is broken, it hasnt gone off in over a month.
Then we should ask Thomas. He was the one to implement it, and he is the one who knows how it functions. I personally rarely check these alerts... Maybe it took too much server power and was disabled on purpose ?

Just in case you haven't seen.....

JREF's team has a car they use to get from trouble post to trouble post!

Uncle Frank caught it on camera while they were getting donuts!

😊
