Boycott American Airlines and tell them about it.

American Airlines should take the ツ"Americanツ" out of it's name. They are not American at all. In fact they appear to be using a really dirty underhanded trick against ツ"realツ" American men and women that are serving overseas.

Quick explanation – the other week I flew on American Airlines from my home base in Japan to Washington DC. No problem. On my return trip, the flight out of DC was overbooked. All of a sudden they decided to ask for a copy of my ツ"orders.ツ"

With electronic ticketing, Common Access ID Cards throughout the services, and government travel credit cards with electronic payment, hardly anyone carries ツ"paper ordersツ" anymore.

So it's Saturday morning in DC, Saturday night at my home base, and all of a sudden these guys want paper orders. I had them call SATO which they know does all the travel arrangements for DOD, who told them all I need is my passport and ID, which I had with me. Even later the Government Services Agency, which holds the contract for federal travel told them I didn't need orders.

American Airlines refused to let me on my flight home. Luckily SATO was able to book me on another airline, which brought me back to the Forward Deployed Naval Forces that I'm assigned to.

This appears to be a selected question they ask of service members only when flights are overbooked.

I'm asking you to help start a grassroots boycott of American Airlines until they decide to treat all American Service members right. Pass this along and show your support.

This belongs under "all things Japanese"...why???

If they were overbooked they should have basically bought you out. Paid you for the inconvenience, or you would keep your seat and another person bought out. This happened to me in July. They paid for my meals and hotels for 2 nights, then I flew business class on the return.

overbooking troubles are quite common in your country, aren't they?

Overbooking is done to ensure that the flights are full, to help keep the airlines "in the black". My big question is how can these airlines be losing money? Everytime I fly the planes are full. Maybe the CEO's, CFO's, etc... need to take huge pay cuts instead of the pilot flying my plane, or the guy on the ground making $30K/yr that repairs that big engine that keeps me from crashing!

Why would this belong under "all things Japanese?" This is a story of something that happened to me. Sounds like a "personal stories" to me.

As for over booking - that is common and is not the issue of this personal story, The issue is American Airlines singeling our Service members with a under-handed trick to try and bump them without having to pay for it.

Member lounge section's " chit chat & misc " forum best suited for this thread,I think.

Why is the big concern what forum this falls in? it's a personal story about a messed up under handed dirty trick when I was returning to Japn.

hells-bells -- mod, there must be too many American Airlines employees up in here. Just delete the whole thread.

We're supposed to boycott a company because you happened to be personally inconvenienced by them. I think I can find something better to do, maybe something on television.

Wrong answer. First, there is a personal stories forum, but regardless--- this thread doesn't have anything to do w/ Japan... it's just your private grievances w/ an airline, so again, it makes no sense that you've posted this here.

The smart move would be to say, "Oh, my appologies..." and move on, not throw up your hands and ask what the big deal is.

Oh, my apologies – I didn't mean to offend your sensibilities with my personal story. I didn't realize you are the keeper of the forum gate of all that is proper. All mighty one, I humbly bow before your superior wisdom – NOT.

You are obviously oblivious to the issue raised, thus you deserve no more of my time.

I think this thread has served its purpose.
