For the 1980's,Masahiko Kondo and Hiromi Go plus Akina Nakamori came to mind.

I made a thread on this before but no one responded T.T
Anyway...80s J-pop singers I like...Nakamori Akina (I really like her deep voice), Wink, Moritaka Chisato, Okada Yukiko *snif*, Kikuchi Momoko, etc.

doinkies even has the final lines of Moritaka Chisato's song "Watarase-bashi" in my sig (though that's technically an early 90s song, but oh well 😌 )

Well, great majority of Jref resident J-rock fans are teenieboppers probably not familiar with Japan's 1980's pop music scene.

Hehe ... I finally met someone share same likes in Akina Nakamori here.😜

I know about 80's pop, but I don't like it at all...
Stuff like Honda Minako, Nito Yuko, Banana, Wink, Pumpkin and even Mari Hamada (how did she change from heavy metal to that...) but that's not my style, hahaha.

Okada Yukiko *snif*

By the way, as a "curiosity": there was a metal band called Kamaitachi, that released a song called "Kill yourself Yukiko Okada" before she commited suicide... after that happened, that song was kind of banned everywhere, and in some Metal Omnibus (compilations) that songs appears with a lot of "beeeeps"; somehow, Kamaitachi demo tapes are a very hard to find item, and also, they cost you an eye from your face if someone want to sell it, hahaha.

See you later!!

**Edit: I askd a friend and he told me that song wasn't released before she jumped from the building... if you want the banned song, let me know! because I need the translation of it ^^

J-Pop existed in the 80's???
Haha, kidding. I could be a fan of 80's J-Pop, but I wouldn't know what bands to look into, or even where to find music that old. The only places I can get music are iTunes and YesAsia, and neither have anything older than the late 1990's I bet.

Did you know that Morning Musume existed in the 80's? Here's a vid of their 80's hit Pepper Keibu. :-)

Are you sure???
The original was a hit by the Pink Lady in the 1970's. From what I read, Morning Musume released a cover version of it only this year or so.

Pink Lady when the song was a hit (1977):

Pink Lady singing the hit again in 2004--still so young!!

Teresa Teng

In 19??, legendary singer Misora HIbari debuted her mega hit song, "Kawa ga nagare no youni," a sad song about how quickly life goes by ("like a flowing river").

Taiwanese pop singer, Teresa Teng, who sang many Japanese songs and even performed on NHK's Red and White Song Festival, did a cover, which is a bit lighter than Hibari's original, emotional version that includes enka flourishes. Foreign ears may prefer this lighter version.

Teresa had many hits including a cover of Aya Ueto's 1950's megahit, YiLaiXiang (Fragrance of the Night) sung in Mandarin.

I'm obsessed with j-pop from the 70's and 80's. From the 80's some of my favorites were already mentioned but I'll mention them anyway.
Seiko Matsuda, Akina Nakamori, Minako Honda, Momoko Kikuchi, Sonoko Kawai, Yuki Saito, Miho Nakayama, Momoe Yamaguchi (whom I suppose technically fits here since she recorded and performed in 1980), Yu Hayami, Kyoko Koizumi, Anri, Wink, Yoko Oginome, Hidemi Ishikawa, Yoko Minamino, Mamiko Takai, Eri Nitta, Mari Hamada...and many others that I can't think of right now.

I've been into Jpop since the early 80's and my fav singers and groups are Akina Nakamori, Noriko Sakai, Meiko Nakahara, Shojotai, Miho Nakayama and many many more :)
