Even the sober Reuters news agency is now referring to a Japanese yen crisis. Here are some details. What I found interesting was that Japan was beginning to get a grip on its debt, with the national debt as a percentage of GDP dropping from over 250% in 2020 to less than 230%.

I always hear there's no debt crisis because it's all owed to JAPANESE banks and creditors.

I thought a lot of it was owed to the government itself. That is, the government borrowing against its own debt.

I wish the yen would go up to 180 yen to the USD. The reason is because I'm at war with the high cost of utilities, which is unbelievably high these days.
What's your guys thoughts on this?

You might get a short-term benefit, but companies will raise the price of food, citing increased import costs, then fail to reduce them when the yen eventually strengthens.

Makes me feel very lucky that 1US dollar bought 360Y when I was stationed there(71-72). Then to top it off , I got $80US extra a month for living off the over crowded base.

I remember it was 302 yen in 74 at Kadena Air Base in Okinawa at the time. You know, beer is still only 500 yen a bottle at the bars even after all these years.

How would that help? Do you have USD to spend?

That makes me wonder. If you live in Japan and give up your US citizenship , can you still collect Social Security?

An American citizen does not lose its SS. Ex. You marry a Japanese lady. She works in America. Pays into SS. Moves back to Japan, still not a citizen, just a green card holder, she still collects SS at the age of 62, ( in her case that is )

That would be the end of JREF. Our hosting fees have been skyrocketing since we started renting our US-based server in 2011, when 1 USD was around 80 JPY. This week, we are close to 157 JPY. Causes me nightmares.

Japan-based hosting would be too slow I assume?
