So Imagine this, I'll use Japan as an example here. Say each city and town and village was its own kingdom. Let's say you were from Tokyo. The king of Tokyo would have his own laws, his own taxes, and his own army. If you broke the law in Tokyo, you could run away to, say, Shibuya. The king there could grant you asylum and Tokyo couldn't do anything about it(Unless, of course, the two kings made an alliance, in which case you were toast). people would be going to war all the time. Okinawa might invade Kobe, and Nagasaki and Shinjuku might or a military alliance to invade Nagano. You can see how that would make life a little bit interesting. And why stop at Japan? Beijing might invade Hong Kong? Life would be mega cool.

You guys are missing the point. It would be really cool to have each city as an individual kingdom. I'm not saying war is cool, I'm saying that having a Ancient Greece type civilization would be cool.
