WWII IJA Funerary Urn?

Does anyone recognize this alleged WWII urn as the real thing? I always read that ashes returned to Japan were in wooden boxes....

Nothing other than the pic of the kanji, which I cannot read anyway......... this is the info that seller has.... but I still don't know if this is real WWII or not since I cannot find anything on the web about this type of urn...

Hopefully you will eventually get a reply. I just tried to make it a bit easier to make out.
 
Hopefully one of our super helpful members or staff will spot it soon. They might sleep late on a Sunday morning , LOL.
 
The date of the death is written on the urn.
昭和十八年五月二十九日没
Died on 29th May, 1943

I googled, and got results that there were cases where a ceramic urn was returned to the bereaved family.
