Why life compare 20 years ago to nowadays are more active?

Being way to active 20 years ago has slowed down my activity today , LOL. Arthritis is a pain.

Because 20 years ago national governments across the globe had enough guts and wits to fight virus outbreaks without shutting the whole planet down.

Also with the spread of e-commerce and teleworking many activities appear "less active" now.

Shopping used to be entertainment back in the days. Now many people buy everything from groceries to clothes from the "comfort" of their chair in front of PC, or smartphone. many brick&mortar shops went bust.

People used to read paper newspapers not digital ones. And i mean buying a paper in a newspaper kiosk, holding it proudly in front of you for all to see, turning the pages with an ear-pleasing sound. It feels more active than just swiping newsreels on smartphone isn`t it?

Can`t say about Japan but in some countries telephone booths were still used by general population 20 years ago. And lining to a telephone booth to make a call appears like a bustling activity, compared to making mobile phone call.

Also with advent of digital cameras, there is no more need to go to photo studios to develop films...
I could probably go on and on.

I could probably go on and on.

But shouldn't all that accumulated convenience give us MORE time to engage in things dear to us? Explore nature, do sports, read books (preferable the paper kind), meet friends, collect coins or engage in the community? Honestly, I am glad I grew up without computers, the internet and touch screens.
