Now, imagine that you are the last human on the Earth.
There were no big wars, no catastrophes or viruses, simply people stopped breeding, and slowly, slowly all the others left you behind.
Now, how does it feel? When you think about it, is it a good feeling or a bad one? Perhaps a mixture of both? Most likely. One thing is for certain, the feeling varies from person to person.

Whenever I try to think about it, it sends shivers down my spine, but at the same time, it somehow feels very tranquil. True, Im on my own, and there are no doctors to save me, no bakers to bake my bread, to media to entertain me, but than again, it seems like a grandiose feeling, to be the last of my kind. Its fascinating, feels weird when I say to myself that "This is the end, no matter what I do, its the end for humanity... might as well surrender to the inevitable."

This is how I think about the issue. How about you people?

Woah, this is something to think about.

I think that I would first, after I found out, start crying because of the ones I lost.
Then I think I would start to go into houses and see what other people have.
Actually, I think when I was the last person on earth I would start a search to other humans eventhough I know I'm the last one.
Coz probably, I just can't believe it...☝

Well, it wouldn't be so painful, I mean its not like you would lose them in a big accident or catastrophe, quite the opposite. Still, I can see why one would find it tough.

first man, last man, life goes on.

I'd meditate and try to achieve a higher level of understanding before the last bastion of humanity burns out.

If you're talking about like.. the opening scene from I Am Legend, where the Earth has become grown-over with plants and the animals have emerged from the perimeters of the cities and everything has started to transition back to the dark ages.. I'd probably try to gather up as much hunting equipment as possible and take up residence in an area outside but not too far from an urban center. I'd want to be away from all that decay but able to sneak in if I needed provisions or supplies. Eventually I'd try to wean myself off that and move exclusively to hunting and gathering.

I'd also probably try to gather as much seed as possible so I could start a small crop and hopefully sustain myself for however long I intended to be around.

What else.. I'd try to maintain some kind of time-keeping methodology.. probably a sundial or something simple but I'm also thinking there'd be a lifetime (my lifetime) supply of watches and watch batteries around so maybe I'd be okay. At any rate, I'd really try to keep track of the days and months as best as possible.

It sounds strange but if at all possible and depending on how long after everyone disappeared we're talking about, I might go around to as many zoos and vet clinics as possible and release the animals. I mean, the thought of them languishing in those cages without food is kind of sad.

Other assorted things:
- steal a Ferrari and drive it around
- set some churches on fire
- gather up a lot of self-guiding books on spirituality so, as nice gaijin suggested, I might find some purpose in all of this and supercede it some day.

Knowing my luck - I'd probably be the victim of the age old story surrounding this one ...

I would despair of loneliness and throw myself off a tall building ...

... and as I passed the third floor, my last experience would be ...

... hearing a telephone ringing ....

Who would have know that after all the disease and war that brought modern civilization to the brink of extinction.. telemarketers somehow survived and became the dominant form of life on the planet. Go figure
:-)

Well, the world is such a big place, I don't see how I could possibly know for sure that I was the last human! o_o So I would probably try and learn good survival techniques, and then go on a sort of worldwide quest to try and find other humans somewhere. I'd feel very 'free' in the sense of having access to a wealth of material resources, but also very lonely, and I would miss people...

I would go insane. After running through the streets looking for someone, anyone I would look for some food and start my survival tactics while being afraid of what will happen next.
