Yen vs. dollar

How does this work? I can not figure out how to take yen and convert it to American currency. And I'm feeling pretty dumb. Can someone clue me in?

Here's an example of something I would like to convert:

Well, the yen-dollar exchange rate fluctuates on a regular basis. According to Japantoday.com, the current rate for a USD is 104.74 yen, which would put your apt at $696.96/month.

With the dollar the way it is and fluctuating wildly, I would just use one yen=1 penny. Therefore, 73,000 yen would equal $730.00 or 73,000 pennies.

Wow your dad was there a few years before me. I remember yen at 300/$1. Ah the good ole days!

It was around 250 when I first got here. I remember leasing an apartment when it was still up around 200+ and then Lloyd Bentsen, who didn't kick in a thin dime on my rent, decided that the dollar should plummet. It's no fun having a dollar income and a yen rent when in a few short months the dollar drops like a stone to 78 yen to the dollar.

Yea, if you need an exact amount, use xe.com like Iron Chef posted. If you just want a very rough estimate, do 100 yen to the dollar. (One yen per penny.)

Wow. :bikkuri: Talk about getting screwed! The lowest I ever saw was 125/$ back when I left in 1988. I do remember it going down to the high 70's/low 80's in around 1997 or so.
