Wow - Something Great Happened To Me Today !!!!

How come this thread fell so far back? No one have good things happening? 😭

Anyway... YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!

The scales have fallen from my eyes and I have seen the light! 😎

I've been religiously practicing modes on the guitar for ages, and while understanding how to play a certain mode in a certain key, and continuing to practice and memorise these, they always boggled my brain somewhat, as I couldn't shake off the thought that a mode in one particular key is also the same as a different mode in another key, and although of course you know the differences from the root and the chords, when you are playing them by yourself it's a bit more confusing. :mad:

But yesterday, something just clicked and all of a sudden I understand it!!!!

So now I'm looking forward to devising myself some exercises on modes based more theoretically around certain chords. :-) whoo hoo!

EDIT: oh and also today I got Protoplasm single by RENTRER EN SOI, and the title track is so good I just wanted to dissolve of happiness. The bass line... 😍

I put in an application for a job, just to see how I would be rated. Now I find out that I rated as the top applicant and the job offer will be coming down shortly.

The job is a promotion and will take me off of shift work and have me working days with very few weekends. I will be on call 24/7 however. My current job I work shiftwork, changing shifts every three months and work weekends.

The new job will pay $100 more per month, but carries 3-4 times the responsabilities!

What to do, what to do...

I say, CONGRADULATIONS !! I'm happy for you CC1 san !! In the long run, it may work out best ! It may give you a much more stable position when, for example, personnel reduction blues come around, if that were to ever happen again. I'm happy for you !!👍 😄 👍

Don't blame yourself Kinsao. I think modes were made into a big deal some time ago by crap rock guitar teachers who ran out of things to teach. It just became a marketing thing..."the mystery of modes"..."mastering modes"....What a load of bollocks. Like you said, modes don't make sense until you associate them with chords, but unfortunately most rock players never get beyond triads, so they have a hard time seeing the associations (as basically you can play almost any mode over any triad and it can be made to sound good in the right context). Once you look at sevenths and beyond modes begin to make sense. Actually I just call them scales, which is what they are really (and helps you avoid sounding like a git). The term "mode" is more approporiate in modal music, which sits on a particular toanlity (i.e. mode) for a long period of time. Modal music was originally what came before diatonic musc that implied or included modulation, though now it refers to something a bit different, especially in jazz.

I'm lucky enough to have learned some music theory during my youth, so scales, sevenths and the like don't really bother me. :)

Anyway, Something Great Happened To Me, uhh, not today exactly, but recently... I finally got to see MUCC live! It was a really good concert. They are my favourite band! :-)

And also, finally I can post at j-ref! 😄 :joyful: That's something good! 👍
 
Well, I finally went ahead and bought a new toy, which you can see below:



Isn't it cool? It's the new Intel powered, duo core chip iMac. hard to believe an entire computer, hard drive, optical drive, power center graphics board, built-in camera, the works is packed inside that thin casing. It's wicked fast and the graphics are terrific! I so love my new toy!

OMG that's amazing! I so want one of those... I love gadgets. I can't afford one unfortunately... but maybe one day!

Public schools are no longer able to teach medically inaccurate information. Take that Matt Blunt!!

my room is getting warmer and warmer although i opened the windows to stop it.... it is 25.5° (normally it is 18°) celcius... the temperature outside is 13°....
ist that someting great that happened to me ? if i see the price of oil : YES
but I can't sleep in a warm room... harhar

(I asked a friend of mine who is a physicist and he tries to find cause:-) )
