Would like some input with 一方/他方 in patent translation

Sorry for such a heavy topic, but I honestly don't know where else to ask.

I've simplified this excerpt from an LCD patent a little bit, but I was wondering how others deal with 一方/他方 expressions in claims, for example:

画像は、第１輝度より明るい第１画素又は前記第１輝度より暗い第１画素の一方で形成される第１領域、及び、前記第１輝度より明るい第１画素及び前記第１輝度より暗い第１画素の他方で形成される第２領域を有し、

An image includes (i) a first area having one of a first pixel brighter than a first luminance and a first pixel darker than the first luminance, and (ii) a second area having an other of the first pixel brigher than the first luminance and the first pixel darker than the first luminance.

I was taught to use "one/an other" instead of another or the other, but when looking at various sources, I seem to be getting different results. I've also translated 又は "one of ~ and ~" instead of using "or" since I was always told it was not as vague, but I always appreciate some good feedback.

My attempt

The image is comprised of (i) a 1st area which includes a first pixel that is either brighter or darker than the first luminance, as well as (ii) a 2nd area that includes another first pixel that is conversely either brighter or darker than the first luminance.

It becomes a slightly cumbersome English sentence, but the original Japanese is also slightly cumbersome so I think we're stuck with a certain amount of clumsiness. It's typical for patents and scientific work.

I like the way you've made use of the roman numerals to clarify the contents. Its a slight departure from the source material, but in this case I think it is completely faithful to the content, and adds clarity for the English reader. (I tried a translation without using the roman numerals, but in the end I feel it is much better to do it your way).

I wouldn't have any problem using "or" as a translation for 又は. Not in this instance, anyway. I don't think there is any dogma around using another/an other/the other. As long as it gets the message across, any of these will be acceptable.
