I never saw a foreigner work at a 7-11 store but the other day I saw 2 working at the store. This was in Matsuyama, Shikoku. I thought to myself, why would they come to Japan just to work for a convenience store . I don't have an answer for that.

Here in Kanto, foreigners at combinis and fast food stores are quite a normal sight. I have observed the same at construction sites. A few months ago, I passed a building in our neighbourhood slated for demolition and was surprised to hear several workers converse in Turkish. A Caucasian truck driver won't cause people to turn their heads anymore. The Caucasian caterpillar operator I saw the other day raised only my attention.
While politicians, lobby groups and think tanks still argue about the benefits and downsides of immigration, it is already happening on the ground, in small steps and clandestinely, but unstoppably.
