Why Jp-pop culture declining in China?

I remembered when I was still a child, Jp-pop culture was extremely popular, and a lot Anime and TV-series from Japan were showed on television, while currently in a race against Korean Wave, Jp-pop culture seem to be down

Why? Do u think its a consequence of the anti-japanese sentiment among chinese, or just problems in Jp-pop culture itself

and whats more, pls tell me ... what differ jp-pop culture from Koren pop culture?

i don't know but yup, k-pop is really EVERYWHERE nowadays. it's getting too much. i don't think jpop is declining so much though because it is still quite popular, just not as popular as k-pop in some place. anti-japanese are mainly the older generations, many of the younger people are very influenced by japanese and their styles.

Hey, an actually interesting topic.

Probably a bit of both as you suggested. On the other hand, I know some Chinese/Chinese American teens who don't really care about the politics of the situation. Interesting to see to what extent pop culture, rather than nationalistic propoganda, influences either side. But I'm sure the Chinese government wouldn't be too thrilled with their media showing Japanese pop culture entertainment anyway.

It might conceivably also be a bit of the second factor that you mentioned, too. Most J"Pop" discussions these days concentrate on a certain genre of Japanese music which has limited appeal. Some discussions also get kind of eccentric, too (to speak kindly- I'm sure I'll still get harassed, but that's the problem with overzealous fans, with whom I've long, long given up). With such a limited view, it's not hard to see why there'd be interest elsewhere. OR, to be fair to them, maybe fans of jpop are actually broadening their horizons to be less exclusionary in their tastes, which is a Good Thing.

Interestingly, there have been some Japanese artists touring in China recently. One I can think right off the bat would be L'arc en Ciel's AWAKE Asia Tour. I think there have been others, but I forget which.

Hmmm, that's interesting. I don't know very much about China, so I had no idea that J-pop was becoming less popular. I do know about the anti-Japanese sentiments, though, so that could well have something to do with it. Or it could as mentioned have to do with increasing popularity of K-pop, or possibly home-grown acts? :? (I have no idea on that...)

It could be that the tastes of music for the younger generation are changing?

Is there anyone living in China who could give an insight into this?

My classmate said she dislike Jp-series for two reasons:
1, the role in Tv-series or MTV is wretched (sorry I ve use this world, since thats what she told me.)
2, some guys are girlish...

I suppose that the Japanese 'pop' culture things that are shown, like on TV, movies, and music, are to a large extent under the control of the government (even though it doesn't seem like that necessarily). With the anti-Japanese feeling, I would think that the government wouldn't be keen to 'promote' Japanese pop culture. So I suppose they would only show very mainstream (or worse) stuff on the TV and in movies, which could be why your classmate disliked the TV series? :?

I guess that a large number of young people wouldn't be too bothered about the politics of the situation, like Lastmagi said, but after all, they can only get what is available...

As more people get the internet, I guess they have more choice in what entertainment they choose and from which country, but of course that takes a while to catch on.

It also depends what else is on offer; if there is good - or at least reasonable - 'pop' entertainment from China itself and from other countries like Korea (maybe), and the government dispromotes Japan, then people are likely to choose the easier options...

It depends on cost as well. If the government is so anti-Japan, maybe the cost of imports is high...?

I'd like to take the stance that had already been mentioned above and say that k-pop is having its time in the lime light because its something new. The reason I originally started getting into jpop/jrock was because it was something new and different rather than the same old drill here in the states. Whenever something starts to become so poppular that it gets soaked into the fabric of everyday life it begins to loose some of that appeal. k-pop is becoming exsactly what jpop was ; something new and interesting. Its in human nature to not want to stick with someting for too long. You think that pair of salmon colored shorts are just the greatest thing in the world and wear them non stop all the time ans then one day you realise that those shorts also come in aqua. Not to say you love your fugly salmon shorts any less, but the aqua is something new and not everybody has a pair....

i think the imports of japanese entertainment has nothing to do with this, because there are alot of japanese series,movies in shops everywhere on reasonable prices like korean shows and also alot of jpop and jrock cds. if your friend doesn't like the ones on tv, perhaps she could buy the ones that she actually likes in the shops

mtv doesn't really bother me, i'm not a fan of johnny and v6 so on, therefore i don't watch it at all and just watch other stuff that i'm interested in.

some guys can pull of girlish looks very well which looks really beautiful but some just comes off looking not so nice, maybe she saw some bad ones which makes her dislike them :? i don't know much about this

Edit : and yeah kpop is fairly new compared to jpop maybe that's y there is this 'kpop boom'. maybe i am too biased towards kpop..i don't dig hip hop and the dances..

anyway this matter doesn't affect me in the least. if you dislike it, just don't watch/listen to it and just turn your attention to the entertainment you like.

I don't really know. I actually do enjoy Korean pop at times. The Likes of Dong Bang Shin Ki and The Trax I enjoy listening too. I used to listen to Morning Musume, then i found jrock of course. lmao! In terms of what i would listen to jpop wise I would listen to Utada Hikaru, W-inds, or Ozaki Yutaka.

I don't really like hello! company now. Their rules are getting irritating, even tho what that girl did was illegal, she only did it once??? And now she is getting banntered in VV as well...heh.
