Why chinese young people hate japanese even though...

even though the current japanese youths were not involved in the war crimes of the past. I've spoken to chinese youths and they are so enraged with Japan . they always mention that they hate japanese people, so since i don't hate it..Japan turns into a topic i must avoid.

Some chinese youths don't hate but most of the 100 ones i talked to over time in voice chats, mentioned it and a few times they gave me a really hard time when i was talking to them about the history of the word CHINA...( I simply said that the word china may have been taken from a japanese kanji construction and apparently the way the japanese used it had a very evil goal toward chinese).immediately , they got super angry and said "dont' even say that word anymore" then they started cussing at japanese, saying "those pigs" and the like. gosh it's just a word, and it's part of history, i can't understand them. I just mentioned it cause i like history and they like english so it was an interesting theory i wanted to share with them.

So why the young youths who were not involved in war, hate japanese?
I dont hate japanese cause they attacked pearl harbor. And what about japanese people , how do they feel to be hated by the chinese?
 
I think the fault remains in how things are treated in Japan. In Japan, racism is perfectly legal and very strongly supported too. The anger in China is fueled by modern day folks like Ishihara Shintaro, the governor of Tokyo who constantly makes racist remarks day in day out. With an overwhelming support for his extremist views in Japan its hard not to anger a non-Japanese or two.
 
Mecharmor is on the money, but there are other things. Look at Germany, nobody, and especially younger generations of people, connect the horrible acts of WWII to Germany or its people that are present today, and recognise it was the acts of its leader and "Nazi Germany". The German people apologised and took responsibility for the actions, and everybody recognised this and accepted that what happened is in the past, and those responsible were persecuted and disrepected by all.

Alternatively Japan is in a different position. There are some people who deny that WWII even happened, Class A war criminals are enshrined and worshipped despite complaints from the victim countries, education surrounding the war is insufficient, the leader of Japan - the Emperor - was never trialled or persecuted for his involvement in the war, atrocities such as the Nanking massacre and Unit 731 are denied despite evidence and witness reports from Japanese soldiers and officers involved, etc.

Does not help, like mecharmor said, that there are politicians who say extremely racist things about Chinese and Korean people, and other idiots online who spout the same stuff in forums and bulletin boards (including our beloved JREF).
 
There's also an element of the PRC using 'historical' issues as an opportunity to de-legitimize Japan's foreign policy and improve its own standing in the region. Gently nudging public opinion towards anti-Japan sentiment is part of this strategy and it also allows Beijing to deflect criticism by claiming that it is considering the vox populi in its foreign policy design.

The concept called Chinese was able to have been done recently.
To begin with, a today's Chinese race did not exist.
People who made an ancient Chinese civilization and invaders in the north were another race(like Qing dynasty).
The history of China of several thousand years is a history where people who made the ancient civilization kept being invaded by the barbarian in the north.
Afterwards, being invaded by the barbarian in the new north ppl called Mongol and Manshurian(窶毒ｾﾂ州ﾂ人 Qing dynastyﾂ）, being conquered, and having been ruled are the histories in the Middle Ages of China.
in modern history,both Invader's north region and the invaded south were invaded by japan and western countries.
Actually, it is invaded, it is conquered, and having continued is a history of
the truth in china for 4000 years.
They considered conquerors in the north to be same " The Chinese", and Chinese did the jugglery that canceled the disgrace that had kept being conquered.
In the Europe and America people, the culture and the face were different
conquerors in complete.
They were able to establish the present People's Republic of China by
the cooperation of the Russian who was the white.
A Chinese cannot have hostility toward them.
A problem is the Japanese
Japanese's face and culture are Chinese and are similar.
Chinese has been despising the Japanese as well as the invader in the north ,
saying that "Barbarian" that the culture is inferior.
However,The Japanese technology and the culture were surpassed, and China was conquered.
The Japanese is a race who remained as the last "Invader" that doesn't unite
with China.
It is the Japanese.
Chinese and the Korean have had the disgrace that kept being invaded for several thousand years.
And, it seems to hold feelings of a common begrudging for the Japanese who is standingﾂ as a great wall in front of their eyes.

Isn't the word the same in both languages ?
I don't understand how it came up except as a means to incitement to confirm another negative Japanese stereotype. But that's part of the issue I've never heard of and I'm pretty sure can't exist even in the wildest Chinese propaganda.
 
I was under the impression the word china came from the Quin Dynasty. Also, they don't call themselves "quin", they call themselves Han, don't they? That would explain the negative attitude towards Quin... They don't see it as the best time in their history.

In the west the individual is more to blame for their own actions, so it was easier to forgive Germany as a whole while punishing individual leaders.

In East Asia its a more group orientated culture, so its easier to disregard ALL Japanese as guilty as their WW2 leaders then it is to recognise the innocence of the common citizen and recognise the actual architects behind Japans crimes.

Oh, I see. I think it's like a slightly derogatory slang term for China not one I've seen in history books personally, but it's also Chinese. So maybe you should ask their own country's usage, understanding and where it came from before making a point of Japan.
 
Yeah, from what doinkies understands, ﾅｽx窶愿 has a derogatory nuance, and it's also on many Japanese TV stations' lists of words that are banned from saying on air. Probably that's why the Chinese people you talked with were offended.
 
It's one of those terms that was popular during the war but hardly anyone would say today. Even the history and defamatory connotation have probably largely been lost on younger Japanese.

As mentioned earlier, there is a lot of effort spent by the Chinese government to fan the flames of the past and perpetuate animosity against Japan.
It helps keep the people's eyes off their own government's doings. Most of these same Chinese also have no knowledge of how China sought to subjugate Japan and turn it into a tributary state for nearly 100 years.

Frequently there are complaints made that Japan never apologized. This is simply not true. Prime Minister after Prime minister has apologized, but the Chinese always claim the apology insufficient, often intentionally mis-translating. Recall China still have an information firewall erected around it; consider why.

Regarding Yasukuni-Jinja, which is often used as an excuse for riots in China and other extreme animosity and hatred against the Japanese:
The shine has existed for more than 120 years and is a memorial to all Japanese who died in conflicts and in the support or defense of Japan. Out of 2.5 million total souls (including women and children) remembered in Yasukuni there are 12 Class A war criminals. For the Chinese to object to to any Japanese leader visiting the shrine would be equivalent to denying an American President entry to Arlington national Cemetery because soldiers involved in the My Lai massacre are buried there.

The only way the anger will dissipate is if Japan were to totally fail in every way and sink into the sea.
 
I'm not sure about this, I've heard several times from Japanese people that the shrine is to not to honor those lost in conflict, but more specifically officers and other "erai" people who died in conflict. Theres somewhere completely different that covers everyone.

Edit: Reading the official home page I look like I'm wrong, but this is why people are still angered about Yasukuni -
"Moreover, there were those who gave up their lives after the end of the Great East Asian War, taking upon themselves the responsibility for the war. There were also 1,068 "Martyrs of Showa" who were cruelly and unjustly tried as war criminals by a sham-like tribunal of the Allied forces (United States, England, the Netherlands, China and others). I always thought a closer analogy was the German prime minister visiting the shrine or cemetary where Hitler or other top Nazis or war criminals were buried.
Because the ones in question at Yasukuni were convicted of actually starting the war.

But my knowledge of this is rather limited and your American example may be roughly proportional to the US history of imperialism and wars of aggression.

I think you are totally wrong.
Chinese civilization formed in 'spring and autumn age',even that time China has
many races.
Who is a Chinese or not never based on bloodline, but civilization. any one, any
race can be a Chinese if he converts to Chinese civilization. In fact, many races
convert to Han people in history.You can learn China's after-TANG history.

Wrong. The history of China of several thousand years is a history where races
amalgamation and cultures amalgamation. Many conquerors invade China because they
admire Chinese culture(just like Japanese) and want to be one of Chinese, so 'A

If Japanese converted to Chinese culture and discards Japanese letters last
century, the result would be different. It maybe: now in the world there are only China no
Japan, Japan can be a prevince of China and save their regional rite.
China had hated to many races in the long history. how about they ? 2 way out, one is become a Chinese,the other is escaped such as Hun, Turki.
then how about Japanese?
 
They hate the japanese maybe because some Jp companies exploit the labor market in China (pay a Chinese 10 cents for a job they would pay a Japanese 10$)
Still, I don't think most young Chinese hate Japanese. Otherwise there wouldn't be 100 applicants for 20 openinngs at my department every summer.They get very well together, I think.

Nowadays Chinese still use the characters formed 3000 years ago, still read books writen in 3500 years ago. I wonder caster51 can't understand the relationship between change and no-change.
 
Actually Chinese don't hate the Japanese. How do I know this?

Chinese aren't the only ones that hate the Japanese. There are a lot of asian countries that do.
