When Chat comes back

Hey there I see there isn't a chat, well I got an idea let's vote about this?
Let's vote about an IRC Channel or something or a flashchat.

Why doing this you think now.
Simple.

If there is a chatroom people can talk with each other on a way they can't do throughout the board, because PM messaging isn't always fun.
With a chatroom people can make acquitance and can share some ideas and info. People cna give their opinion or they can share cooking recipe's.
The idea of a chatroom in a forum that is allmost 80% about Japan is very good.

There can be humour etc... or if there is no one online you can talk to yourself lol!

no serious what's your opinion? Must JREF have one or not?
It's pity because that there isn't one because I really want to meet other people in a way that you can't meet them here.

I prefer it the way it is now. If you want to chat with someone from here, just swap msn or facebook I.D and go chat there...it's not so hard really.

It's not the same. I think the chat is a vital part of the Jref.com becouse it's way more fun than the forum. It sucks to hear that there is no more chat. If Jref.com had a chatroom, it would satisfy the forumers and the chatters.

No one wants a chat room back more than me..........

but the interest is just too low to be honest. Say we have over 1000 active members and only 10 or 15 want a chat room; it just doesn't pay to go through the expense or trouble to get one. The last year of chat room use(before we got rid of it), it probably was used 5 or 10 hours that whole year. The people who did go into chat would stay about 5 minutes , then get bored and leave. I'm not sure why members quit using the chat room, maybe because there are so many other ways on the internet to communicate? I bet if we opened a chat room here tomorrow, there would be fewer then 10 people who used it every single day. Maybe if we can get over 100 votes here in this thread saying members want it back, it might show there is a REAL interest in getting it back. I for one miss all the great friends I made in chat back 3 or 4 years ago.

The people who are interested, does one of you know how to set up a channel on IRC? If so, you could set up a chatroom there, just for JREF members. You could give it a key and invite people by PMing them here.

I believe you can access IRC through the web nowadays, so you probably wouldn't even need to download an IRC client.

You don't even have to make a channel. If you join a channel that doesn't exist, then it gets created and you're the op.

We just need to agree on a server... since I'm in another channel on it now, how about QuakeNet?

It doesn't even cost anything. Who cares if no one's in there?
