Well, here in my school they have this 'Japanese Craze' going on, and not to say I don't like it, but its just annoying they think japan is the ONLY true asian country and the rest is prejudged, I think it gets to the point where they talk about japan soo much it gets old, I mean if you go to school or know someoen who talks about japan like its god to them its gonna get old, I mean sure japan is cool, they have things we don't, cars, anime and women. I like japan for its culture and everything, but damn I mean people bashed me cause of what I think about their "ideal japan" where everything is what they say it is.

I mean I have this friend of mine she's crazy about the country ( more power to her ) and she's thinking "OMG japan! OMG anime anime!! I wanna live there because they got ANIME! OMG the music!" and I am sitting there just thinking "yea well you can get anime anywhere in the world, some anime is not FROM japan, and Music you can get anywhere you don't always have to go straight to the country just for that" after saying that to her she's like "you hate them hm?" and I said "I never said I hated them, I think the people are nice, I was just saying that you can get almost anything you just mentioned here in the states."

Anyways, what do you think?

I love japan, but not as much as people who would idolize it.

You have my heartfelt sympathy.

Don't worry, you aren't the first to make it. But this is the first time I've seen it made in regards to a high school. I'd only seen it made here about some of the members. I agree that that would be really annoying, too.

I wonder why so many people are so fascinated with Japan.. I did a little Google based research: I seached for "fascination with XXX", for the top 10 most populated countries in the world, and some European countries, and counted the number of hits..

China - 517
India - 523
USA - 2
Indonesia - 19
Brazil - 30
Pakistan - 36
Russia - 212
Bangladesh - 0
Nigeria - 1
Japan - 731

France had 230 hits, Italy 172, Germany 101, Spain 83 and dear old Holland had ZERO hits, whereas Belgium had 2.. :(

Anyways, Japan has the highest "fascination per million inhabitants" ratio. (China = 0.39, India = 0.48, Japan = 5.76)

I don't really have a thought or conclusion on this, I just thought it was funny. Some search results are really scary too: I found a message board in which a girl was so obsessed with Japan and its culture, she wanted to go there so badly to marry a Japanese guy.. Weird.

Oh, and did anyone here know that Bangladesh has 141 million inhabitants? I didn't.. I guess I did learn something of this little project. :D

Well poor you, but let them be probably someday they will be obsessed about anything different and end up bored of japanese animation, after all to me; at least it sounds like they have no real interest in japanese culture anyway.

I agree with you, Souske, Japan is a nice country, with an interesting history, and I can see why it is quite popular, but to obsess over it? I've never seen that myself, but from what you describe, it sounds like a "bandwagon" kind of thing, people jumping on left and right.

Funny that Japan doesn't really consider itself a part of Asia, but rather thinks of itself as more of a western nation than its neighbors...

and has your school taught you about run-on sentences yet?

Gaijin, eh it was a rant is all. I didn't pay much attention in english class.

oh I know, it's just that rants that are easy to read are usually easier to agree with.

Japan thinks it is not part of Asia because it thinks it is better than the rest of Asia, not bashing Japan here but merely stating the truth the way I see it.

To OP: I understand what you mean, when I took Japanese in my degree the white people in my class were almost all like that.

And more likely to be read and less likely to be ignored.

I love it when people mention english class and run on sentances...

...ever read Ray Bradbury? 😊

Back on topic, this kind of thing happens with everything. It seems some people just have an inheirant need to worship something--explains religion, I guess, but it make it a pain for genuine enthusiasts as we are often confuesed with the drooling fanboys/girls if you so much as mention an appreciation for anything Japanese.

Too true, my friend seems to think I am a 'Japan Otaku'. She thinks it's funny - even though she is mad about London.

I don't own loads of Manga, Anime, J Pop/ Rock, (not that I don't appreciate it - I think it's great), but an interest in Japan can put you in this category of 'Otaku'

Otakus come in all shapes and sizes. If I may be truely honest I am a Rotterdam otaku (the city where I live), as I can't stand people saying a bad thing about this BEAUTIFUL city. 😊
But there seems to be a lot of otakus or "fanatics" in relation to Japanese stuff.. It is indeed a beautiful country with equally beautiful culture and thingies. Too bad these shallow fans of Anime, Manga and whatever don't take the time and effort to show some deeper interest in Japan.

Oh you'll just LOVE the jrock fan culture over here.

In all seriousness, though, I completely sympathize. This idealization has gotten way out of hand. Those types you mentioned are only living in their own delusional fantasy-bauble land. Lucky for us, rabid idiots like these rarely make it out in the real world.

Oh wait....

..But- But HOPEFULLY they'll grow out of it.... right?

As a bit of a sidenote, I love it when people mention improper usages of English... and then go on and make even more spelling/grammatical errors:
