I like to read a lot of posts/threads from the past. I have noticed a weird thing about posts. I find that many posts from elizabeth look quite weird. 窶堙ｨ窶堋ｪ窶堙??堋､ They look like a newbie just finding charmap.exe for the first time. I'm not saying it's jibberish though. I think people are typing japanese characters, although i do not understand why i can not see them. Perhaps this is a bug in the forums? Is it a feature? *snicker* Is there a way to correct this? I am using the lastest version of internet explorer. Plus i have japanese ime on the computer.

But to be more specific what is wrong with this (Nihongo) forum is that the _default_ encoding chosen to display it is Western European. Something which happened way back with the last major forum update but hasn't been fixed yet.sl0815 said:

I know you hate necromancing, Mike. As for bored, not much. I happened to answer in in another thread, but just found out people were discussing it here. I would have liked to pull and graft, but I didn't have the power. Anyway, it was quite stimulating to find people were excited about this question of logic. Do you find it interesting, too, Mike ? The mystery, the paradox, the contradiction ?

I don't find it interesting in the least. The first time I encountered it, I suppose I did.
I was much more interested in how bored a fellow has to be in order to go hunting up dead threads to reply to. Specifically, I wondered if you were just randomly rooting around through old threads and found this one worth replying to or if you found it while doing a search on some term (and if so, what term).

Then I found a reasonable compromise. If I am the only one interested, then reviving it might be an extremely selfish thing to do. Then I discovered the "currently on-line" list where I can see and click a thread that is currently being read by someone else. If the title looks good, I go to it and see if I might be interested in posting a reply. Since there was at least one member or guest reading it at the moment, I am comforted when I reply. But no, I try not to revive an old thread that is not getting any kind of attention from someone else unless I feel really strongly about the topic, which isn't the case in this thread, "what's wrong with the forum." I hope that answers your curiosity, Mike.

I might have done something like that 8 months ago when I was still a rookie here; there were tons of really good stuff from the past - ooooh, they were sooo tempting ! I only revived a couple of them out of respect for the forum equilibrium, but I felt rather out of place as I thought it improper behaviour. That was surely a dilemma, what to do, what to do ?
