It's strange, I've always had the impression that Square don't really care too much about making money - if they did wouldn't they cobble together FFXII and rush it out, rather than making us wait? Same thing with Advent Children - just how long did we have to wait for that?noyhauser said:I can't say that I agree. I think the creativity has really gone out of Enix-Square, when it really started making money because of FF7.
I just don't see it! FFVII was about an evil genetic experiment gone wrong; FFVIII was about a group of orphans whose source of strength made them lose their memories so that they didn't know they knew each other; FFIX is character-driven - and the characters are complicated, individual and lovable; FFX is about the evils of prejudice and dogma, and how sometimes you have to give up what is most important to you; and FFX-2 is about how your enemy can become your friend. Those all seem a long way from "some superpowered teenager goes and saves the world."!noyhauser said:The storylines remind me more of stereotypical anime than the deeply engrossing stories that made up the first editions of the game. Each one, its now "some superpowered teenager goes and saves the world."
That's good to know. I just thought I was crap!noyhauser said:Tactics was really tough, which is why so many people like it. It took a lot of practice and work to make good characters with a very strong team, and you could regularly fail
They are a favourite of mine too. The battle system is great, and I like the way Covenant took the piss out of itself. The wrestling subquest was so camp!Icaro said:Its Shadow Hearts for me played all 3 and I cant wait for the next one woo hoo.
Wow Lastmagi! If I wasn't married I'd be chatting you up by now!lastmagi said:So you like RPGs, too, eh, Tsuyoiko. Your coolness points just went up a few points in my book!
SOLD! I'm sure that's at the back of a cupboard somewhere - I'll dig it out and send it to the top of my list!lastmagi said:I loved Star Ocean: A Second Story. Let's see... loads of playable characters, check. Amazing customizability of items providing an endless amount of possibilities, check. Fun battles, check. Relationships among characters variable depending on character's actions, check. Multiple endings (well, multiple possibilities of different brief scenes at the end, at least), check. Beautiful music, check. Side stories and mini-games, check. Battle arena, check. Actual CHALLENGE, for once, check. A giant, fat bunny used as transportation, um.... check....
Now I know I've got that somewhere. Maybe I'll put that at the top of my listlastmagi said:Unless you consider storyline as a prime factor, in which case Xenogears wins hands down.
The game that I'm playing at the moment, Vandal Hearts is very similar. Now I've come to terms with dying in more battles than I survive I might take up Tactics again. The top of my list is getting very crowded!lastmagi said:FF Tactics, though, blew me away. The story was top-notch, albeit butchered by miserable localization and translation, tending towards more socio-political aspects than any other Final Fantasy game

That has got to be the most intriguing comment on this thread yet! Now I have to play this game again to see if I can figure out what you could possibly mean by it!lastmagi said:try to keep the non-generic ones alive, though, like Mustadio- he makes me want to rethink my sexual orientation
