What are some of your FAMOUS PAINTINGS

One of my favorite paintings is Evard Munch`s painting, "The Scream." Something about that wobbly melting face and the look of horror/surprise grips me. Here it is:

I usually like more classical or romantic types of paintings, but great colourful and moving ones, like Jacques-Louis David. I especially like this one and that one, or this one or that one

Flemish Renaissance or Baroque painters are not bad too (notwithstanding some of the themes depicted).

Oh yes, Maciamo, those are all great. I, too, love the classical paintings. The Liberte` one above is quite impressive.

I tend to like all classical paintings that show a semi vuluptious lady or ladies with hips or breasts bared. I don`t feel anything erotic about those pics, but something about them strikes me.

There are some good classical pics of David having slain Goliath and in the midst of cutting off his head or holding it that I also like. I'll try and find a few and post them soon.

(I wasn't so impressed with this painting, until I saw it for real. In the flesh, so to speak, the light is just awesome.)

I remember... we were shown that painting so much on crappy slides at college, and when I finally saw it for real, I was just blown away. I must have sat in front of it staring for about 20 minutes. A friend was with me and she was just the same.

Hmm, well, I've always been a Big fan of Van Goh--and Munch's Scream is also one of my favorites...

...but I'd have to say my favorite classical works are the prints from Dante's Inferno--though those aren't paintings.

Still, I think I prefer the prints from Sandow Birk's modern retelling over the origionals.

You're referring to Gustave Dore's works, Reiku? Dore is my favorite artist. Check out his other works, if you ever get the chance.

has some of Dore's works from the Divine Comedy and others. I've always loved Paradiso 34, but the web image quality isn't that great, unfortunately.

He's the only person I know who did prints for the Divine Comedy. I have another version of Inferno that has another kind of illustration style, but I'm sure that isn't the guy you're looking for. If Dore's our guy, then you can find a book here:

I really like the work of William Blake, too... I went to see the exhibition at the Tate in 2001 and it was really great.

Wow~ That's great Kinsao, I want to see his real painting too. I saw only in the book, I love his poem But, I don't know where the Tate is? or what is it?
One of my favourite painters is William Turner, I can't wait to see his real paintings XD I once herd that there is a whole museum only for his works in London, isn't there?:?

The Tate is an art gallery in the centre of London. I really like visiting galleries, but actually I haven't been to an art exhibition for years! I really need to go again, but it's difficult for me to find the time and money to make a train trip to London (now I am too old for a discount travel card!). I used to go with my friends, when we were at uni together studying art. Perhaps I can motivate myself to visit an exhibition again sometime soon!

Ah, Turner is a good painter, and I like Constable too - but of Constable, I prefer his oil sketches to his more perfect, finished paintings. The earliest piece of art I ever saw was a Constable oil sketch on a set of table-mats my parents had. I was captivated by it, and before the age of 4 years I was a big fan of Constable!

Also, one of my favourite painters is Tamara de Lempicka. I wrote my dissertation on her work. :haihai:

And I really like the work of Aubrey Beardsley.
