Weather Alert: Hurricane Milton

I am not familiar with the America areas, but just the minutes ago as I was watching the scientific videos in YouTube (It is the first time I use VPN to access the videos) I faced with this news. The summery of the news:

Hurricane Milton is an extremely powerful tropical cyclone active in the Gulf of Mexico and barrels toward Florida.
And this is a part of the news:
Location: Yucatan Peninsula


Event: The National Hurricane Center (NHC) reports that Hurricane Milton is a Category 5 hurricane that is projected to bring hurricane-force winds and a storm surge across portions of the northern coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. A Hurricane Warning is in effect for Celestun to Rio Lagartos. A Hurricane Watch is in effect for Rio Lagartos to Cabo Catoche and Campeche to south of Celestun. A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Rio Lagartos to Cancun. U.S. citizens in the impacted areas should monitor the progress of Hurricane Milton.

I saw in the video the people of the area were leaving their living place and migrating to the safe zones out of the hurricane circle that its center was a place called Tampa.

Honestly, I'm not surprised Florida is facing another hurricane. Tampa is the fourth most vulnerable US city for hurricanes, with an 11% chance, so I'm pretty sure these Tampa people know exactly what to do with hurricane Milton.


I think the people who live in Tampa are used to this crap.

The area of North Carolina and Georgia got hit super hard by the last storm. Pictures of damage by water floods is hard to believe. Many roads got washed away and the only way people can get help is by helicopter. I guess around 200 dead and many more missing. For their sake , I hope this latest hurricane goes out to sea and misses them. Years ago Maine would get a hurricane about every 5 years , but now nothing here for a very long time. I wonder if man in the future will ever be able to conquer the weather & Mother Nature ; probably not.

True although they haven't had a direct hit since 1921 so there may still be some complacency with people staying home when they should be evacuating.

I think NC is safe from Milton. Looks like it's heading straight across Florida. But yes, NC was bad. The water came up to my sister's steps and a gazebo got washed away but no additional damage. They didn't even lose power for very long. She was very fortunate.

They sure seem to be popular now. I see ads for free VPN's a lot. Now my cable company offered up free VPN's if you use their internet service. I think my Norton account now offers them. About 1/3 to 1/2 of the new members joining JREF seem to use them. I'm proud to be from Maine & the US , don't need to hide it. I do feel a bit sad we can no longer use our real names on here for fear of spam & scams.

I think, the climate changes because of the extreme amount of smoke, harmful gases in the atmosphere, and consequently greenhouse effects in recent centuries are the cause of such unusual weather all over the world.

Nevertheless, I think, the mentioned area is capable for such great storms geologically and naturally.

VPN is not legal in Iran because of the harmful contents and some relative websites (ethically, politically, and so on) The young people are not aware of the harms of those contents and websites and they can pervert and mislead those young people.
The unfiltered internet can be like a snake or scorpion that bites. Sadly, the pain and danger of such bites are not felt.

However, I used it for the first time to access only YouTube for some technical videos (casting, machinery, fixing up the broken-down devices, wildlife, and also some clean fun videos for entertainment).

Nevertheless, despite the legal prohibition of using VPN, some people use it for their personal business through the social media (Instagram, WhatsApp, Twitter, Telegram) and some for other purposes.

Usually, the relevant supervisory organizations don't penalize users severely, due to the online business aspect, so as to avoid causing financial losses to individuals.

No place in the U.S. is fully equipped to stand up to a large hurricane. Just two weeks ago Hurricane Helene came through north of there causing much damage. Search for "Hurricane Helene" on Youtube to see videos related to that disaster. Also "Hurricane Helene Asheville."

However, I used it for the first time to access only YouTube for some technical videos (casting, machinery, fixing up the broken-down devices, wildlife, and also some clean fun videos for entertainment).

Ok. Be careful you don't open any unclean videos by mistake.

Well, man has certainly shown that we have a definite impact on climate, but only in the most disastrous and uncontrollable way.

These are historically bad storms, causing record amounts of damage, and they are happening with greater frequency. Increasingly hot and dry summers lead to record-setting fire seasons and wet-bulb temperatures where people can't physically regulate their body temperature and die without air conditioning. The temperature of the ocean directly causes hurricanes and typhoons, which are getting worse and more common. Instability in the jet streams lead to unusual tornado occurences... The chickens are all coming home to roost. And these effects are going to continue and probably get worse, and it will become increasingly expensive to rebuild and recover, to the point that certain areas will decline and eventually be abandoned. Insurance companies are already refusing to cover fire in parts of my state, and flood policies are out of reach for most people in flood prone areas. Hell, parts of New Orleans still haven't recovered from Katrina. Some areas may never recover from the coming storms; Tampa will probably never be the same after this.

We're moving through the stages of grief when it comes to climate change, and we're already beyond the denial stage where people could pretend that the effects weren't pointing to a clear trend, or that there's a strong corollary between our consumption and pollution and the changes we're observing in our environment. We've gotten to the point where conspiracists are blaming these storms and fires on specific groups of people who secretly HAVE conquered natural disasters and directed them at unsuspecting citizens like Bond villains. This is all just deflection to avoid actually addressing the underlying issues that are causing our planet to kill us. The oil companies knew 50 years ago the trajectory their business has set us on, but what could they do, NOT make money, in this economy? They had no choice but to bury the evidence, refute their own findings, and doom us all.

We live in the dumbest timeline.

Yes, millions of car, other vehicles and factories; million tons of coal and petroleum consumption in the industries, and the fire that people use in their houses, in addition to the natural events like volcanic activities and forest fires have saturated the atmosphere with Co, Co2 and the other harmful gases due to burning plastic things. Now, the earlier transparent atmosphere has been turned into yellow.
I don't know whether nature can recover these detriments or not, but the significant question is that, what human himself can do to retain this level of the pollution in a fixed point, at least, not to rise to a higher level.

I remember thinking that we'd probably see migration away from the equator and people would start moving north (in this hemisphere), as people seek milder climates to avoid the worst of these increasingly hot summers. I was even thinking myself of investing in property up near Squamish, BC, after visiting during a window of good weather and enjoying the great climbing up there. As soon as I had that thought a massive heat wave struck the Pacific Northwest, causing wet bulb temperature in Seattle and Vancouver, and then a series of fires devastated communities close to where I had been climbing.

I feel pretty good about my chances here in the Great Lakes region. Lots of fresh water. No earthquakes or hurricanes. Some tornados but very few. If only I were rich, I'd be buying up property.

I guess it depends what you're comparing it to. Compared to Arizona probably super humid. Compared to Florida, not at all.

The northern half of Maine got rain almost every day this year which is strange. 2 foot snow storms were real common here years ago. Now we seem to get just 6 or 8 inch snow storms that are really wet and heavy to deal with. I'm hoping for an easy winter this year , getting too old to deal with it and too cheap to hire someone. My friend on Facebook is a realtor. When she does find a house to sell now , they start at about $500,000 to $750,000. Whenever they find a place to put in new large housing developments , everyone who lives near by blocks it NIMBY(not in my back yard) with lawsuits and other tactics. Growing up , we were always taught the weather went in 20 year cycles hot yo cold and back again. It doesn't seem that is true now. One thing I learned in science class that now confuses me....when the air quality was horrible like when an asteroid hit earth , it caused an ice age. When the air became cleaner and the sun could get back through and warm the earth back up it got hotter. SO....it seems the cleaner we make the air the hotter the earth will become , therefore global warming is caused by us cleaning the air?? Seems like common sense science doesn't count in this case? I will say I would love it if Maine got so warm we never had snow again.

That's a big state. But I guess it's probably more uncomfortably humid sometimes (and colder) other times compared to SE California. The worst part is that we have evil killer mosquitos.

One thing I learned in science class that now confuses me....when the air quality was horrible like when an asteroid hit earth , it caused an ice age. When the air became cleaner and the sun could get back through and warm the earth back up it got hotter. SO....it seems the cleaner we make the air the hotter the earth will become , therefore global warming is caused by us cleaning the air?? Seems like common sense science doesn't count in this case? I will say I would love it if Maine got so warm we never had snow again.

I think the cyclic thing is still true. But in additional to the cycles, there still is a greater warming trend. As for the air quality -- the asteroid would have put a lot of dust and particulates into the air causing the sun's warm to be reflected back to space. Whereas high CO2 levels keep the heat in like a greenhouse even though the air looks "clean." But it's polluted in the sense of high CO2 levels which you won't detect as unclean air. Look at nice gaijin's first chart that shows the rate of greenhouse gas emissions entering the atmosphere.
