I'm so pumped. For the first time in a week (almost to the hour) we've got power back! Unfortunately there are still lots of people without (like almost my entire hometown, and I'm pretty sure most of Terrebone and Assumption Parishes), but hopefully they'll be getting it back soon too. Cold showers and cold meals get old really quick (although we were lucky in that we had a gas water heater so we could take warm showers). We also don't need any reminding that AC is more a necessity than a luxury down here, especially a reminding that goes on for more than a week. Thanks Gustav, and glad to see you go!

Tis the season !

Let's hope the next one fizzles out on Cuba and gives the US a break. We got almost 6 inches of rain Saturday night from the remnants of the hurricane when it zoomed by Maine. Good luck on riding out the next one.

Thanks! Luckily (for us) it looks like it's heading for the central Texas gulf coast. We'll probably see some rain, but that won't bother me any after this last fiasco.

I hope you didn't get flooded by Hannah too badly there. I just got to see some Weather Channel for the first time in a while and it looked like there was some serious flooding in the Northeast from that one.

The last really bad hurricane here.......

was in 1938. All the hurricanes after that we just call heavy winds, LOL. Ice storms and snow storms of more than 2 feet are about all that slow us down for a day or two. Most of us up here have wood stoves and generators to get us by. The average house up here takes a 70 mile an hour wind without even noticing it. There are times when I wished I lived in the hot dry desert though.
