I've never had a chance to be hypnotised, but it seems so fake on TV? Has anyone here personally been hypnotised? What's it like? Do you remember it all? Have you had it done to break a bad habit or for entertainment only? Anyone here studied to be a hypnotist? It seems kinda like a kind of magic?

Frank, I also at times wonder if this really works or not? As I agree it looks so fake.

I have never been hypnotized nor have I known anyone to be hypnotized, but my grandmother used to have those cassettes with some man trying to hypnotize people as a treatment for smoking. When I was little, I used to think I could go into a trance by listening to them, but it never worked... :? :p

Bah.. It's all lies.. Imagine if you really could hypnotise people with things like that.. you can cure someones from their fear of flying ? you can cure them from smoking ? Then why not hypnotise all prison inmates to never commit a crime again ? Theres so many things that make it so obviously fake.. :p

I've seen it done (on friends and classmates that I know) about 3 years ago and it does seem to work. The hypnotist put the group of people (selected from an audience) in a deep state of mind with his speech (you know, "you're in a vast and open area, imagine yourself drifting.. blah blah blah" stuff. Not with a watch. :D :D). During the process, he even makes them do physical movements and stuff (I think like pulling an imaginary lever or something). So people really have to get into this for it to work and fall into that deep state. After that, one-by-one, he goes though each person and "checks" them and he's instantly able to tell who's in that deep state and who's still "awake" and fully conscious, which he made them get off the stage. Then he taps someone who's in the deep state, and like on tv, he tells them something (when I whistle, you'll become a... chicken, or something and start squaking) and makes them do some pretty hilarious stuff like seeing floating chairs (which an assistant lifts up, but in that hypnotized state, I guess he only sees the chair).
After, I asked some of the people how it felt like being hypnotized and they say that they don't remember anything. I don't think the volunteers were rigged since I knew some of them, unless they were lying to me. >_>

There is some science involved in hypnosis (the serious stuff anyway) by somehow using gestures, words, their voice, and patterns in their speech to manipulate the subconscious. Though I doubt that it actually works until I'm actually hypnotised myself, but then they might hypnotise me to give them my wallet or something...
