Use of ため

I have studied the use of ための+ noun and ために + Verb meaning "for" or purpuse, but I have seen it at the end of the sentence, not followed but any particle, and I was wondering what exactly is the meaning when it goes, for instance, at the end of a sentence (as in the following example


災害で橋が壊れると、生活に必要な物などを運ぶことができなくなるため、そのときだけの簡単な橋をすぐにつくることが必要で す。
(Example from NEWS WEB EASY|１０分で伸ばすことができる折り畳む形の橋)

I'm trying to find the sense giving the sentence a meaning of "purpose" but I'm not sure if that's 100% appropriate.

Any ideas?
