Question Understanding 物好きなことに

Hi. Is the bold part a fixed grammar construction, as in 驚いたことに、残念なことに?

But I have some problem figuring out it’s meaning. Does it mean "To their (連邦) curiosity"? Or something else?

Yes for ～ことに.

As for 物好き, the nuance is more likely "eccentric" there.

Thank you. So does 物好きなことに何やら調査したいとかで translate as "eccentrically, it is said that they want to conduct some investigation" literally? Or do you have better literal translation?
