Trying to figure out the best way to say "I'm new to learning Japanese"

I'm trying to learn how to say that I'm new to learning Japanese. Would this sentence structure work?
日本語は勉強が僕の新しい or nihongo wa benkyou ga boku no atarashii.
Or is there a more correct/better way to connect this sentence?

Actually I just realised from further study that a more correct version of the above would be
日本語で勉強は僕の新しいで - Is this better?

I'm afraid that neither of those works, grammatically. Actually 新しい is not the best for saying "new to" here.

(私は）日本語の初心者です
(初心者 = shoshinsha = beginner)
（私は) 日本語の勉強を始めたばかりです
(始めたばかり = hajimeta bakari = just started)

The parts at the start are in brackets because in many contexts (e.g. if you have just introduced yourself), you don't need to say "I" with every sentence, so that part can be dropped.
