Translation help, て - adj

Hey guys, I just started watching the j drama BOSS, in Japanese with english subs, to work on my Japanese. I have a couple questions about some of the lines of script. The script doesn't seem to be perfectly accurate, with some things missing and some thing seemingly accurate.

1) Here's a part with a bit of commentary before it. How is that translated?
野立との会話がさっぱりしていて面白い！「お前の失態は俺が何とかカバーした」。
It looks like it's setting it up with a quick comment, then goes to a quote that isn't in the movie. Looks like something about a conversation at a ceremony that was refreshing somehow (using dictionary for words I didn't know, so it doesn't really sound right).

2) Using て+adj, like in this example: さっぱりしていて面白い！ is it saying "interestingly refreshing" or "refreshingly interesting" or anything even remotely close to that?

3)The part with quotation marks is given the translation "Still, I managed to cover up all your bad points." Is that an accurate translation?

How are these translated?

さっぱりしていて面白い is like "refreshing and interesting". There may be a light causal relationship there as well (i.e., "interesting because it's refreshing"), but I'm not entirely sure that's the case.

お前の失態は俺が何とかカバーした。
"I managed to cover for your mistake."

I don't see how the two sentences go together, though, unless the covering sentence is an example of what makes talking to Nodachi (I'm guessing) refreshing and interesting.

Ah okay, I understand. I think it has something to do with "You never know what you'll get with her!" in that she unpredictably does things that need to be covered up...maybe that's a long shot.

The first half of the quotation is just the writer's impression about their conversation.
The -te form explains the reason why the writer felt interesting here, as Glenn-san interpreted correctly.

BTW, his name is のだて.
