[h=1]Tokyo workers sleep less than New York, Europe peers[/h]Bloomberg
Tokyo office workers sleep at least 30 minutes less than their New York, Paris, Shanghai and Stockholm Peers each night, averaging six hours, or 14 percent less than the recommended minimum, a study said.

Tokyo workers went to bed at 12:18 a.m. on average, the study by Stanford University and foodmaker Ajinomoto Co., which sells Glyna, a sleep supplement, found. The U.S. National Sleep Foundation urges seven to nine hours a night.

Although I am not a Tokyo worker, since I have came to Japan I sleep a lot less (especially after I had kids). I have a pretty busy life and have the feeling it is a waste of my time to go to bed early, even though I know I should sleep more to be more efficient and to feel more energetic.

Getting not enough sleep during the night, makes me sleepy in the train and most of the time I do actually close my eyes for about 15minutes (I can't do it while I am standing).

How about you? How much sleep do you get, how do you feel if you didn't got enough sleep, and how do you sleep? Have you ever slept at the office, and do you sleep later because you have deadlines to finish?

  • Sleeping is never a waste of time ;)
  • 5-6 hours of sleep on average, more on a rainy weekend
  • The older I turn, the earlier I hit the bunk.
  • Commute by bicycle, so sleeping on the train is no option (cycling energises you a lot, btw)
  • What keeps me sleepless? Server problems and websites.

I probably sleep between 5 to 6 hours a night. And I have also noticed that I sleep less in Japan than I used to. But that also has something to do with having kids as well.

I sleep anywhere between 1-7 hours a day. Depending on the day. Some crazy **** happens at my job? I've gotta come in and fix it. @.@

When I'm not on holiday, I think I can safely say I manage about 7-8 hours unless I'm kept up for some reason which is rare.
However, I do not have kids or responsibilities like that. Most I have to worry about is house keeping stuff and work (oh, and Japanese study of course lol).

I somehow wake up very early in the morning, like 4 or 5am. I usually try to go back to sleep but sometimes it is impossible...
I really want to sleep for longer hours but usually end up 5 hours or less.:(

How do you feel during the day when you sleep less than 5 hours? And are you someone who can sleep in the train?

If I sleep less than 5 hours, I really noticed that I don't have enough energy and can't be as productive as I want to be. A co-worker actually gets fevers when she sleeps less than 8 hours.

I need at least 8 hours, but ideally 9 hours. That's actual hours of sleep. If I wake up during the night and cannot sleep for 2 hours then I'm going to spend 10 to 11 hours in bed. When I was a child I had circles under the eyes and was tired all day if I got less than 10 to 11 hours of sleep per night. It feels like a curse when other people can get by with much less sleep.
