Funny you should mention work, guys. I was three months removed from having retired from the Navy and was in the middle of job hunting when the blizzard hit. But the only work I was doing afterward was clearing all that damn snow away. URGH!! The whole bloody region was paralyzed for a good two to three days, so very few people were getting to work anyway. What a mess that was! Double URGH!!

Well, we got an inch overnight on Saturday, but that was followed by freezing rain which made things a mess on the roads Sunday morning before melting away. As for today, we're supposed to get hit fairly hard later in the day as the weatherguessers are calling for three to six inches. URGH! I'll keep everyone posted.

Tsuyoiko: Well, that's what they are to me, weatherguessers. They make predictions that don't pan out most of the time, especially when snow is in the forecast. Case in point: We got some snow Monday night, just an inch or two, but earlier in the day, the call was for 3 to 6 inches in the city, but it didn't happen. Right now, there's just enough on the ground to be an annoyance, for which I'm grateful.

Well, we had a repeat of Monday night-Tuesday morning on Friday. Thursday, the weatherguessers were in full apocalypse mode, calling for as much as six inches in the city, causing stampedes in supermarkets all over the region.
The snow started around four a.m. Friday morning, by five-thirty when I left for work, it was coming down like gangbusters, it certainly looked like we were in for major trouble, especially during morning rush hour, however, by eight, the snow had stopped and the sun was out. Like several days ago, the storm moved through so fast, not much snow was dumped, we got about a couple of inches, and by three when I left for home, most of that was gone. Once again, all that angst and no payoff, not that I'm complaining.
I swear I screwed up royally with my career choices. I should've become a weatherguesser, I mean, I can put on an expensive suit, stand in front of a TV camera and guess my *** off like any of those knuckleheads on TV today!

Wow.......
Yesterday's storm buried Portland , Maine. We got over 13 inches in 8 hours. Hundreds of cars went off the road. Tried out my new snowblower for the first time this morning; way better then my old machine! It even has heated handgrips to keep your fingers toasty warm. My old machine took 2 hours to do my driveway. The new one did my driveway and the neighbor's in an hour. Looks like a white Xmas for sure this year.

.... Lovely day up here in Vancouver ... a little cool, but bright sunshine. Nice!
But I only wish that I had had my camera with me yesterday when I drove to work.
Around our house it was thick, thick fog .... but when I started off up the mountain behind us (I climb the best part off a thousand feet during my commute!) - I rose above the fog - and saw "wonderland"!
I could see down onto the Fraser Valley - shrouded in a thick white carpet ... just like driving above the clouds ... and in the distance, could see the Cascade Mountains and Mount Baker silhouetted against the most gorgeous sunrise I've seen in years! Beautiful!
If I get another chance ... I'll take some photographs and share.

lol @ Jeff!
to me it's so annoying if I listen to the radio and on comes the forecast, and they spend 5 minutes telling you what it has been doing all day, and another 5 minutes telling you what it's doing right now outside the window, and then 'predict' some lame cop-out like 'sunshine, showers, with maybe a touch of snow and a warm night with patchy cold spots'.

Well, I don't know what it's like across the pond, but here in the States, severe weather like snowstorms gets the sort of blaring, overhyped, "if it bleeds, it leads" sort of attention on the news given to natural disasters, train wrecks, 50 car pile-ups and other assorted calamities. The weatherguessers make three to six inches sound like the end of the world, after awhile, it gets so silly, especially when all those incredibly dire forecasts end up being wrong. But does the public get a "mea culpa" or "my bad" from those knuckleheads? Of course not!
In fact, if memory serves, I recall a former weatherman who left Philly for New York saying in a newspaper article a few years ago that he'd rather exaggerate snowfall totals than risk the ire of the public if he made a call that was less than what actually fell. Another weatherguesser actually said on camera she looks forward to snowstorms, and she had the sort of giddy smile on her face like someone who just won the lottery for a million bucks. God forbid if she ever ended up in L.A., she'd have no fun at all! Like I said, I wish I were a weatherguesser!

Well, the weatherguessers are calling for a chilly day with daytime temps no higher than the low 30's and nighttime temps in the high teens. Well, given my dislike for how often these bozos tend to be wrong, I'll just wait and see what happens for myself!
