Thinking of spending a few years in Japan

Hello everyone,

I kind of hit a "plateau" in my life and considering a change in it. I don't have a family (not married - no commitments at all). I have been doing my own business for the past years so I can even afford not to work in Japan for a few years or work for a lower-than average salary (well maybe would not be the best life but I will still have an OK income).

So, I am even considering having another undergraduate degree in a Japanese university. I am also willing to try a different path in my career so I am thinking of combining experiencing a new culture & educating myself in another field.

My question for the fellow members is: Considering I do not know any Japanese at all (though I am willing to learn it at some point), is it possible to find a university where I can get an undergraduate degree with the means of education being English?

I know I don't really have a solid plan on my mind, but... Well, I think that's what I am trying to get :)

Thank you for any replies in advance

Welcome to JREF, chunin. 🙂

I've moved your thread to Studying in Japan, because of the nature of your inquiry.

Yes, there are universities that offer education in English. However, the range in field of study is limited to humanities and social sciences (incl. business).

For information on university programs taught in English, you can do a search here in JREF. Leading examples of such programs are Sophia University FLA, Waseda University International Division (not sure of the exact name), Ritsumeikan Asia-Pacific and International Christian University (ICU). Also, you can google to search their websites for admission information. These schools offer intensive Japanese language courses.

Thank you epigene :)

"you can do a search here in JREF" you mean the forums or some other section? I checked the homepage and could not find a direct link to any education related section.

If you are going to start, I would suggest getting the basics down before you go into a university, it will make life much easier. If you want to, buy Genki 1.

Well I am basically trying to discover the possibilities. All I know is I want some major change in my life and Japan has always been attractive to me. Once I have a semi-clear goal, I'll start working on it.

Thanks for the insight anyway :)

I meant the "Search JREF" search box close to the top right corner of the page?

Just type in the names of the universities I mentioned and other keywords. There are many threads regarding universities you can attend.
