The usage of や

I have this ２年生 drill I am doing at the moment, can you guys please help me a bit with the usage of や in a sentence

Example:

図画や工作、 国語も楽しい

What is the や for? Is it like, preference? Or ''and''? Anyhow, thank you!

That's "and". Unlike と, や is used for incomplete lists.

Do you mean like non inclusive lists? For an example in english "Dogs and birds are animals." Both dogs and birds are animals so it is correct but not inclusive of all animals so や in this case. And for the other. "My mother and my father are my parents." That list includes all my parents, so と in this case? Please correct me if I am wrong.
