It is "Dog".

なぜなら
Because

いぬの漢字は「犬」です
A kanji of a dog is "犬"

この漢字から点を取ると漢字は「大」になる。
A kanji becomes "大(big)" when I take a point(" ' ") out of this kanji

Oops, I did it again! I'm sorry, awwwwww.
Actually, I thought of posting this in the learning Japanese section, but since I got this as a result of my search for "riddle", I thought I should post it here. I also thought of putting an English translation, but if I had translated the question into English, the question would have no longer made any sense, cuz of the Japanese pun. Now I finally understand ANYTHING I write in Japanese should belong to Japanese sectioin, OK!

Now what shall I do about my post and Hiroyuki Nagashima san's reply? I would be very thankful if you would move these to the Japanese section, because I have a couple of more riddles like this I'm planning to post.

The first time I saw this I was like: what!? You don't need this in daily life, 'cos the answer is "akaji" (red letter) which means "deficit" (in accounting terms).

Ha--i, doinkies san's got another correct answer, APPLAUSE!! It's a red colored hiragana "ri" and that's "akai ri" or "akari" in Japanese, which is a "light". Very good job!

leonmarino san, you almost got there! (Btw, akaji(deficit)...that's the least thing you want in your daily life, ahahaha!) I'm looking forward to your answers in the following riddles, so please try again.

Well, it's a kind of evil looking smile, but the left part is a long nose and the right part is a big grin. Imagine the guy is looking down at something, or just has his face tilted forward (part of the reason it seems like an evil smile to me).

"What is that you hold when you're laughing, and set up when your angry?"

It is your belly, because the Japanese say "腹をかかえて笑う", which means you laugh so hard you have to hold your belly. But when you're angry, the say "腹を立てる".. To this day I have no idea why they say that, but it means you "set up/erect your belly".. Why is that Kyoko?

このほかにも、日本語には、「腹」という言葉を使った面白い言葉がいくつかあるので、ご紹介しますね。

１）腹黒い(hara guroi) evil-minded
２）太っ腹(futoppara) generous
３）腹が据わっている(hara ga suwatte iru) have guts
４）腹の虫がおさまらない(hara no mushi ga osamara nai) not soothe one's feelings
５）腹の虫のいどころが悪い(hara no mushi no idokoro ga warui) in a bad mood
６）背に腹は代えられぬ(se ni hara ha kaerare nu) There is no other way.
７）腹を割って(hara wo watte) heart to heart

ところで、なんで「怒る」ことを日本語で「腹を立てる」っていうんでしょうね。 辞書やオンラインの語源辞典などを調べてみたんだけど、ごめんなさい、leonmarinoさん、 実はまだ答えがわかりません。どなたかご存知の方は教えてください、よろしくお願いします。

By the way, why do we say "hara wo tateru" when someone is angry? Well, although I checked my dictionary and also some online encyclopedias, I have not yet figured out the answer. If anyone knows why, please teach us.

そこまで？江戸時代だと思っていたんですが。それにしてもびっくりしましたよ！で、ｕｎｄｒｅｎｔｉｄｅさんは古い日本語を勉強したことがあるというわけですか。

たしか、高校の古文の授業の時に先生がこのなぞなぞを教えてくれたんですよ。
古い日本語を専門的に研究したわけではないんです。
ちなみに、江戸時代にはこのなぞなぞは通じなくなったようです。江戸の初期ならまだ大丈夫だったのでしょうけれどね。ちょっと調べてみたら、「奈良時代から江戸時代に入るまで」となっていました。
奈良時代より前は「もっとちゃんとあっていた」ようです。長い年月のあいだにずいぶん変わったんですね。
このなぞなぞの答えを知らない人が正解をしったら、きっとびっくりしますね。

ああ、そうですね。江戸時代なら始まりだけでしたね。戦国時代の終わりではこのなぞなぞはまだ残っていたんですが（１５９０年代）。訂正をありがとうございます！
