The Manufacturer of "Puchi Puchi" Bubble Wrap Changes Its Company Name to "Puchi Puchi"
Kawakami Sangyo, Founded 58 Years Ago, Reaches Decision After Three Years of Discussions
(Good! Morning, August 7, 2026)
Ayaka Sato (23), Marketing Department, Kawakami Sangyo:
"We wanted to become a company that makes products that help protect the environment and our planet as well. That is why we decided to change our company name this time."
Puchi Puchi is a polyethylene cushioning material that protects fragile items and other objects from impact.
The name was inspired by the "puchi" popping sound made when the bubbles are pressed with a finger, and it was officially registered as a trademark in 1994.
The company says the decision to change its name was reached after approximately three years of discussions.

Turning a Beloved Product Name into the Company Brand
Kawakami Sangyo Co., Ltd. (6-2 Gobancho, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Keisuke Yasunaga), which manufactures and sells the "Puchi Puchi®" brand of air-cushion packaging and related products, will change its corporate name to "Puchi Puchi Co., Ltd." effective October 1, 2026 (Thursday).
Until now, our company has focused primarily on the "Puchi Puchi®" air-cushion packaging product, working to create products that protect the things that matter.
"Puchi Puchi®," a name known by virtually everyone in Japan, was inspired by the "puchi" sound produced when the bubbles are pressed with a finger. We officially registered the name as a trademark in 1994. Since then, it has been a brand that our company has cultivated over many years and a product that has become familiar to people in a wide range of everyday situations and business activities.
With this change of corporate name—the first in our 58-year history—we will adopt "Puchi Puchi," a name long loved as a product brand, as our company name and integrate the value of our products with the value of our company. In doing so, we aim to develop "Puchi Puchi" beyond simply being a name for air-cushion packaging and establish it as a brand that supports a resource-circulating society.
Background to the Name Change: Expanding the Value of "Protecting" into a Resource-Circulating Society
"Puchi Puchi®" is a product that symbolizes our company's core value of protecting the things that matter. As interest in environmental issues and resource circulation continues to grow in recent years, the role we must play in "protecting" has also expanded.
Our mission is not limited to providing peace of mind through our products. We must also make use of resources again after they have been used and help protect the environment and the lives of future generations. This is another important responsibility that we must fulfill going forward.
In order to communicate this mission more broadly to society and encourage greater understanding and participation in our initiatives, we decided to change our company name. With this change, we will work to develop "Puchi Puchi" into a brand that supports a resource-circulating society and further promote the creation of systems that enable resources to circulate.
Achievements in Resource Circulation: Progress through Increased Use of Recycled Materials, Collection Volumes, and Recycling Box Installations
We are currently promoting our "Loop Recycling®" initiative, which collects used Puchi Puchi® as a resource and turns it back into new products.
In cooperation with local governments, elementary schools, private companies, and other organizations, we are expanding the installation of recycling collection boxes. We are also working to create systems that enable consumers to participate in resource collection through educational outreach programs and events.
In addition, our company has received official certification for voluntary collection by manufacturers and sellers under Japan's "Act on Promotion of Resource Circulation for Plastics." We are further expanding a circular system in which used Puchi Puchi® discarded by households and businesses is collected as a resource and returned to products once again.
As a result of these initiatives, the percentage of recycled materials used in Puchi Puchi® increased from 44% in fiscal 2008 to 98% in fiscal 2025. The amount of air-cushion packaging collected, including Puchi Puchi®, increased from 20 metric tons in 2023 to 198 metric tons in 2025. The number of Puchi Puchi recycling boxes installed also rose from 20 in 2021 to 404 in 2025.
Going forward, we will continue working on both increasing the collection of used Puchi Puchi® and expanding the use of recycled materials, while pursuing material modification technologies and quality improvements aimed at achieving a 100% recycled-material usage rate.
Through these efforts, we aim to fulfill our "responsibility to manufacture" by ensuring that manufacturers of plastic products themselves take responsibility for the entire process—from collection and recycling thr
