So, at least in America, there was a special round of research scholarships made available for 2008. The research deadline was moved back almost a year and we only had two weeks to get the applications in, as everything basically happened this April. Anyway, I just found out that I passed the embassy recommendation phase of the scholarship. Kind of a weird situation because the sped up timing means that Tokyo is going to have to make the final decision somewhat soon so we can get our visas together before going to Japan this October. Anyone else in the same boat?

Hey, everyone. I need some help.
I am going to apply for the Monbugakushu
scolarship, and, although it's no sooner then
may 2009, I'm wondering what my screening
is goinig to look like.
Thanx in advance.
I appreciate it. =]

Hi everyone,

I was just trying to Google information about the MEXT scholarship when I came across this thread. It looks like the thread has died down quite a bit from before, but I'm hoping there are still some past MEXT scholarship recipients who are reading this....

I want to apply as a research student at Waseda University with the MEXT schlarship... but I would love to know more about the application process.

What is the entrance exam like? Is it the same entrance exam for everyone in the world who's applying? I want to go into marketing communications, but I'm really bad at math.... so hearing the word "exam" makes me worried about lots of difficult math questions...

From what anybody knows, is it easier to apply as a research student (non-degree seeking student) or should I apply to Waseda directly as a graduate student (to get a master's) and apply to MEXT simultaneously?

Any information anybody can give would be appreciated....

thanks!

^you 2 should go to the real monbusho thread:
Monbukagakusho Scholarship for Postgraduate!!

there are lots of info there. alot of people are attached to this thread and dont venture out of it. so go there if you want more help.

I will try to answer some of your questions;
zlaja,
your screening will look like this: Application, test, and then interview. you might want to be more specific.

adurian,
the exam is the same for every one. 1 test is an easy english language test, and the other is a japanese language test. you can find some sample test online some where. there isnt a math section to get the scholarship. Its much easier to apply as a research student and its much more common. to apply into the graduate school, you most likely have to take an entrance exam and you can only do that at the university. as a research student first, you can take the enrance exam while you are already in japan. 2 bird with 1 stone.

hope this helps a little

Hi menrui,
Thanks for answering my questions! It helps me a lot because I now have a better idea of what to expect for the application process.

I'll check out the other thread for more information. I'm really excited about getting the process started. I have already contacted the Japanese consulate here in Vancouver, Canada. So far, the man there has been really helpful as well. Hope I can get it!
