I just found this forum, too.
I've been accepted to study a graduate course by Japanese Government (provisorial acceptance) around December 28th and now I'm waiting for the final (the Japanese Consulate said it will come around final January.
I'll be at Nagoya University (Information Science course), so, if anyone is going to Nagoya, please make a contact

Concerning my case, i am waiting to know, at last, at which university i'll be .
Nonetheless, there's a chance i'll be at Aichi Gakuin University so it's not far from yours, i believe .
Anyway, it hasn't been decided yet. just wanted you to know i might be there; so would we be able to meet once there .

Actually, I'm trying the graduate course. I already undergraduated last year (Communication course) and now I'm trying the master course in Information Science.

The Nagoya University is my only chance, since that was the only University I found that someone has the same research area as me

Nisshin is really close to Nagoya so, if i got luck, we can meet each other near Nagoya

PS: I hope the final answer come until the end of the week

It seams that you are in the same situation like me. I also waiting my answer for the reaserch scholarship. I was afraid that it will never comeI called the Embassy and they've told me that they will tell us at the end of January. I gues that it takes a litle bit longer to send answer to so many countries.

It's like Naestia said. The informations is given to us by the Consulate, but this is applied only for graduate students. I didn't find thos information about undergraduate students.

By the way, they normally divide this 15 scholarships between 3 categories (5 for each of Biological Sciences, Exact Sciences and Humans Sciences).

But I don't how many are assigned for other countries, just Brazil.

Okay.. For example here in Turkey, we have 3 types of scholarship. One is research, 13 people goes everyyear ( this is almost for sure) and 1 for Undergraduate.. They recommend around 2 but mostly 1 person get it or none -_- . and 1 more scholarship for Japanese Cultural Exchange- for those who studies japanese as major in Turkey, it's 1 mostly sometimes to.. well budget changes everyyear. And for researchers they took 5 of JApanese Majors, and 8 from different types. I realized in my last 3 exam.. they look for Japanese in all those three types. Because only those who did Japanese A till C stay for interview " even though some just only trying with no knowledge " I know it because I did only 1 or 2 question in Math test -_- But made it to interview three times and get recommended...well this is how it works for Turkey...

Here we have 6 types of scholarship:

- Researcher (Graduate)
- Undergraduate
- Technic School
- Professional Course
- College Teacher Training
- Japanese Language and Culture

Besides the fact that most people who attempted scholarship are japanese descendants, for research scholarship they don't focus on that. For example, half of them don't know count to 10 in Japanese hehe But, as I know, the undergraduate is far more difficult.

This information is not available on any of the websites I can find in the USA, so I'm not sure exactly. Anyone know where this information might be found?

Yeah, it's difficult to tell.

But it's not easy to find all regions. For example, I know that in Sao Paulo we have those 15 scholarships, but I have no idea about Rio de Janeiro and other areas.

I've briefly checked and the information is indeed provided at many Japanese Embassy websites. Here, it is +-43 potential recipients in the tentative list for research student scholarship. I am curious Nall-ohki, could it be because United States of America is divided into many states (each having a slight different legal system to another), this makes it rather difficult for Monbukagakusho to choose whether to determine the number of quota based on each state or based on whole of America? My best guess is that the quota exists for USA as a unity, but the information cannot be easily provided by each states in America.

PS: The official result for Indonesia has not yet been announced, and I am getting more and more hopeful....

Hey Ilus, thanks for searching, and sorry I missed your response for so long. Huh. Well, that gives me a lot more information - if one out of 43 people drop out, I might get in, but that's about it. It's strange, though - I will have to look at the number of embassies in the US, but it seems like there can't have been that many people who passed the initial recommendation stage, which makes me wonder how long the list is.

Anyway, this is just me musing - I have to assume I'm not going, but it's hard to let go, especially when I'm an "alternate."

hi ultima ! i am finally in japan, nagoya university , six months japanese course. and just know that it is possible to enter a private university such as waseda with this scholarship. the proof is that two people were accepted at a private university here in aichi prefecture . a south african and i are at aichi gakuin daigaku, which is a private one and, by the way, more expensive than national ones. so it is definitely possible !

Yes in Waseda are quite many internationals. I prefere national universities more, but there is no probleme in going in any private university listet by Monbusho. Waseda has may programs in englesh also.

Go to the Japanese Ministry of Education site and see the names of the universities in Japan. As long as you find them there you can apply to them. you will find them clicking on the link other sites from the main page somewhere on the bottom right.

There are 3 type of universities in japan:
National
public
Private

is it from a university of your home country OR a japanese university?
