hello everyone ... i hope you are all doing fine.. everytime before i sleep i have this thoughts about what gonna happen if i will not make it! damn it
hi there !
i have in fact, the same thoughts everyday. So please try to think you are not alone and i'll also try to do the same .
by the way, can you please everybody inform us by writing a message here if you ever get an ansew ?
Hi Bachir!, that's right, I'm from Indonesia, and very very happy to meet you online.
I'm also very excited to meet friends from different parts of the world sharing the same feeling regarding this issue. Thank you very much Nall-ohki for starting this support thread for us.
Excellent suggestion Bachir!, I completely agree with you. Let us all inform each other when we later receive the final announcement. But I have to caution that there is the possibility that Japanese Embassy in our respective country will not get the result information simultaneously (For example Alma received her announcement on January 7 last year, while my friend received his on January 27), which can be slightly discomforting to friends who will receive the result later than some of us. This will not be an issue for me , and I hope we all can agree in advance that sharing any bit of information will do us good in this waiting period.
I would also like to add that there are rumours that in addition to the formal announcement, it is possible that we can know the results from our respective professor (around 2 week earlier). Honestly, I do not know whether this is true or not, or "true, but not generally the case". In fact, I have some reservation initially in opening this information to this forum because it can negatively mislead others into expecting the result from their professor. Could somebody here please help confirm these for us so that we can all know right away the truth to this info?
Thank you very much everybody!! Enjoy the last 5 days of 2007!, and wish you all luck in 2008 (because this is the year that we will most likely get the long awaited result!)

This is the second time I've applied the MEXT undergraduate scholarship here in Finland at Japanese Embassy in Helsinki. Last year 2006 I hadn't yet graduated from high school at the time I applied. My graduation had become late because I was in Japan as an exchange student 2 years ago. In spite of that, I was able to fulfil the criteria for applying because I was to graduate before leaving to Japan in April 2007 in the case of gaining the shcolarship. I think my biggest mistake last year was that I applied for a direct placement to a Japanese university wihtout the 1 year pre-education before enrolling to university, so I wasn't even recommended to MEXT by the embassy...
This year 2007 - after graduating high school - I managed to avoid my previous mistakes and applied MEXT undergraduate scholarship with the 1 year pre-education period. My first wish of major subject in the case of recieving the scholarship was Japanese language. I was one of the two Finns recommended to MEXT this year!
Last summer after the first screening at the embassy I asked about my chances, and I was told that last year they had also recommended two applicants to MEXT but nobody from Finland hadn't got the scholarship. They also said that they don't have a very good idea on what bases the Finnish applicants are (or are not) selected in the MEXT headquarters! It seems you can't really take anything for granted here in Finland when it comes to the MEXT scholarships, though this is only in the case of undergraduate scholarships!
When I asked about the final results at the ebmassy during the first screening last summer, I was answered that I'll get it "propably in December". I also have a Finnish friend who got the MEXT undergraduate scholarship 2 years ago. He got the final results from the embassy "before christmas", so you can imagine how anxious I've been the last 2 weeks!
I don't know if there's any difference between the waiting time for the final results of MEXT's research and undergraduate scholarship, but still I believe I'll get the answer this year! I spied the home page of Japanese embassy in Belgium and noticed that the date of the final results of Undergraduate scholarship for Belgians seems to be set as December, hehe... I just wonder how sure you can consider that to be...
I try not to take too much stress about a possible negative answer because I have one more chance next year, but I think I'll cut my head off and do harakiri and curse the whole world in every possible way if I don't get the scholarship this year, Hehe..! wish you all strength while waiting and good luck at the Sholarship selections! Thanks Nall-Ohki for creating the thread! It's wonderfull to see that I'm certainly not alone! Thanks for reading about how the system works here in Finland!
I'm looking forward to hear everyone's results when you get them! Good luck!
hello turre and welcome in our family
it's so touching to see that you went through a selection last year without passing . However i hope and wish you will be there next april to study japanese indeed .
as for the belgium embassy; i found it too : MEXT Scholarships : Embassy of Japan in Belgium
anyway, my embassy told me to wait at least until mid-january.
let us all wait then
I'm also waiting and waiting.....☝ I hope I'll get an answer in the begining of January. It's so hard to wait. I guess girls are not know for their patience.
Hi guys. I really wasn't expecting this until about the middle of January, but my Consulate contacted me today to let me know that I have been accepted as a recipient of the research scholarship! They still need to start making arrangements with my school of choice before everything is final, but I don't figure there should be too much of a problem with that.
Hope you guys all get good news soon too!
Hello everyone!!!
I just received an email from the Japanese Embassy in my country confirming that I have been selected as a grantee for the Monbukagakusho scholarship. All that's left now is the confirmation from the University, but as I already have an acceptance letter, I'm not worried about that.
I'm SO HAPPY!!! There are no words to describe this feeling. I guess everyone will get their confirmation soon , I wish you all the best of lucks!!!!!
Thank you Bachir for your compassionate words! Congratulations to xiuxiu and dblbstrd for your success!
This is quite amazaing.., but I also got E-mail from the Japanese embassy today! I got the MEXT undergraduate scholarship! My first year Japanese language pre-education period will start at Osaka University in next April.
I was also informed that there is another Finn who got a scholarship, but I'm not sure if he's a Research or Undergraduate scholarship student... ☝
Good luck for all of you who haven't got your final results yet!!
Congratulations dblbstrd and Turre!
And to everyone else, good luck! I hope to see you all in Japan!
My letter of acceptance says that I start classes in April. But I'm not very sure wheter this means Japanese classes, or research student classes. I wouldn't mind either way, but the letter doesn't say!
I've just finished reading all these new post THIS very moment!
Wow!!,
how bold of me to previously assume that all results for research scholarship should be out in January next year, and certainly not this year. Please do accept my sincere apology for this mistake.
However, what's more important is that three of you have got positive result, right? CONGRATULATIONS dblbstrd, Xiuxiu, and Turre!!!
As to those who are still anxiously waiting, I still in the pack and will keep on sniffing for the result with the rest of you guys.
Good luck everybody!, and I will repeat this again and again, enjoy the last days of 2007. It have been a good year for me despite the uncomfortable roller coaster ride experience that it gave me. Hope it have been a good year also for you guys.
Congratulations to all who got an acceptance =D !! And good luck for the others who are waiting for the results ^^ (including me).
I called the embassy today, but sadly the person who is incharge of us scholarship students wasn't there + no e-mail =( .. I'll try again tomorrow. "Sehro" inform me/us here if there is any news =)
Thank you very much for taking the time of your holiday to share this valuable information with us. I am sure it gives a certain sense of relief for us who are still waiting, waiting, and waiting.... (myself included in that list).
Regarding Nall-ohki's question on what is most annoying about the waiting period, my personal answer is as follows:
The fact that I haven't really been able to grasp what the final selection is about.
We had all passed the document selection (selection no. 1: Academic record screening). We had all passed the exams (selection no. 2a: Linguistic ability screening), and went through the interesting interview (selection no. 2b: Motivational and personality screening). Then, we got the green light to get letter of acceptance from our university of choice (and which by now some of us had already successfully acquired).
And then comes the question and wonder about what points are examined further in the final phase? Most certainly there is a good explanation to this, but the problem is that I haven't get to figure it out yet (anyway, maybe it's because I just haven't make a real good effort to find it), and this is precisely what makes my long waiting period longer than it already is, huh..
On the overall though, I still think that this waiting period is necessary (and to a certain extent, enjoyable) because it keeps our spirits high, and if we are lucky enough to get positive result )), the euphoria of getting the scholarship will repeat itself the very second we receive the final result.
Ok, once again Happy Holidays!. Hopefully, more good things will happen to all of us next year! Good luck!!
here we did the exams and the interview in the same day and i got the recommendation after that!
so all who get the results, its the final results? or its just the acceptance from the university and you have to wait for the final respond about the selection?
Sehro, in the case of undergrads, I believe you are set to go if they say so, and they tell you where you will be placed for preparatory language studies. Your actual university placement after that I believe is determined later with entrance exams and such.
In my case as a research student, I was told that I have been selected by MEXT as a grantee and they would like to know that I still wish to accept before going ahead with making arrangements with my school. So the whole thing is pending the arrangements with the school before it's final, but I'm not too worried about that.
Turre, congratulations on getting the undergrad scholarship, that's pretty darn competitive from what I understand, so good job!
And good luck to everyone still waiting!
dblbstrd, you're right about what you said about the Undergraduate Scholarship, but according to my friend who already got the Undergraduate Scholarship, it seems that you don't have to take university entrance exams after the preparatory language studies. The university placement is decided only by an interview instead.
It's new year's eve! Welcome to the year 2008 everybody!
Out of curiousity, I've checked out my local Japanese Embassy website and discovered that the embassy will not open until Friday this week. Therefore in my case, I do not think that the results will be out earlier than Friday.
However, I greatly hope there will be more friends in this thread who will receive the result much earlier or possibly on Friday this week . It have been a source of comfort and excitement for me , and who knows, it may even provide us with a clue on actually what to expect this week , or the week after , or the next week after .

Yeah, I checked my consulate, and they reopen on Friday as well - it's going to be hard waiting those extra two days; I was really hoping they'd be open on the 31st or the 2nd, but I guess I'll just have to be patient.
