Suggest a Country

Taking the advice from Mycernius I'm looking for suggestions on a good "liberal" country to live in. The United States of America is literally going to Hell in a handcart pretty quickly, and I have the feeling I won't be living here anymore within the next ten years. This isn't a joke thread, this a serious topic. I seroiusly am looking to move somewhere else. I just can't pledge allegence to a country anymore that puts religion before reason in litagation. Honest outside opinions are recommended. Please state the various reasons why I should move to a particular country as well. With that being said, what country should I move into folks?

I love Australia,, been there 9 months, would love to go back there...problem is,,,, you can get Skin cancer faster then other places in the world...

so i geuss New Zealand would be fine too... mountains on the south island,nice beaches on the north.. ( havnt been there myself, but i geuss everybody saw LOTR, and other NZ stuff)

sweden would be nice to,, nice girls, cold in winter, nice in summer ( but its expensive)

netherlands,, uuuh hehe Lots Of culture ( to much if you ask me... tell other time, or on reqeust why) ... and some other things, AMSTERDAM IS GREAT ( center of the city when you have money....

but when you have money South of french would be nice to... nice weather, relax, a a bit, and no problems with other people much... ( just you need to learn French... )

if you like to party at night, relax on the day,, Ibiza would be nice ( at least i love it.. hehe) just take some money with you, because the clubs ( biggest ones in the world ) are expensive 60euro to come in is a normal price... ( maby 1 free drink) :music2:

mmm what about DUbai, moslim country, a rich country, and you will be safe there as a foreigner ( as far as i know) Drill in the ground there, make some money in your garden... (then get law suwe ( how to wrtie that?) because its not your country, but your neighbours one)

BRazil,, Forteleza old dutch fort the have there, nice looking Brazilian girls, party all night, doing some adventure in day time,, relax on the beach,,, ( sound pretty perfect for me... when you are single ( im not soo not so perfect for me i geus) :cracker:

One of the nice things about living abroad is that you feel like you're not a part of the political BS of that country. But if you live there long enough, the BS will start to get to you. So you might get sick of wherever you go.

I've often thought that the best political systems were in Scandinavia. The taxes are high, but so much is paid for you (college, health care). It seems very cooperative and responsible. Problem is, they know they've got a good system going and they don't easily allow outsiders to become citizens and take part in it (or I'd go tomorrow).

And New Zealand because it's peaceful and the weather and terrain is similar to where I'm from (but that probably won't matter to you).

First, I would recommend seeing what you can do politically in America. No one wants Jeb Bush in 2008.

Canada is nice, we have all the economic benefits of America, but we have more political freedoms and civil rights. Our government has its problems and scandals (like all nations) but at least no one dies when our government lies. It isn't perfect, but it's home.

With the way things are turning out, I don't think the United States of America will be a powerful nation in the next 20 years, especially with China getting more and more advanced for its own good. Religion mixed with litagation is bad politics no matter how you look at it. If they seriously try to change the Constitution (which is designed not to happen in the first place), then this country is f***ing doomed. It'll be like Sol Bionica in the sense that the USA will be ruled by religious zelots. That's not a smart move. Actually I'm not a conseravtive at all. I'm a moderate or in a lack of a better term an independent. I vote for the politican that will get the job done, not the political party. I don't believe in bipartsian politics. I believe we need a third political party to choose from so we don't have this type of s*** going down. Why? Because the extremes just piss people off that's why. Thanks America for voting on the morality vote even though we all agreed that Bush shouldn't be in office. Now we're stuck with a dumbass president who thinks he's God, and his approval rating is below 45%, and he doesn't care. Welcome to Hell ladies and gentlemen.

It was four hundred economists, and ten of them won noble prizes. And he ignored them!!! And he wasted alot of money on these moral crusades on getting rid of drugs, which proved to be fruitless. There's been no decrease in the use of drugs. Now this war in Iraq, I don't know what Bush was thinking about, seriously! Yet, another idiotic move. Now they decided to stop looking for weapons of mass desruction. Blaming it on bad intelligence. He needs to take a look in the mirror if he wants to see bad intelligence.

Unlike many people who try to distance themselves from the president or the current state of affairs in the United States, I assume responsibility for it. Come to the UK. We speak English and ignore the religious right. They tried to make it an election issue, but have failed. The English aren't a particularly religious lot. Our economy is doing fairly well and we have a health care system. We think it is running down, but in a lot of areas it is still very good. The best British past time is complaining about the country, but most of us think this is still the best country in the world, so ya boo sucks to the rest of you. It is expensive compared to the US, but European countries are. The best thing I think this country can offer is the BBC. Television and radio with no adverts.
I find it strange that the US is still an attractive place for people to live in. A friend of mine now lives in North Carolina. He was always was fascinated by the US and never realy looked on the down side of your country. But he now lives in a town of rednecks (his own words) an still acts very English, but he is enjoying himself, I think?
Seriously if you are considering living in another country look very carefully into their history, politics and culture and then decide if you could live under their type of government and life.

Hey, I was thinking about studying abroad in the UK. I think I will Mycernius. I don't know why people are still attracted to the US either. Personally I think it's because of our diverse culture. And things are cheaper here because of the decline of the dollar and how expensive it is to live in Europe. So, that would make this place a nice to choice to go on vacation. I don't know if want to go to London, because I would sure love to go. Does anyone know any uinversities I can attend in the UK. Recommendations, please.

I understand that this country has been through a lot. There's no doubt about it. There have been times when you thought the whole world was going to end in an instant. However, what Bush has cuased is an epidemic so to speak. He's appealed to the 84% of Christians in this country. He's even gotten the Christian Right as the majority in office. So? Everything will be alright in the end. Yeah, when the world finally f***ing ends. Bush has created a dominio effect now. The morons in this country are finally winning. Sometimes I feel like we're starting to revert back into the 1800's with the slave arguement. America is getting to be not a nice place to live anymore. Hell all China has to do is move their money to Euros, and this country is f***ed. If the this current trend continues only for 10 more years, I still don't want my kids to grow up with that kind of pressure. Do you see what I mean? If the problem fixes itself later on down the road (and with this current trend, a long freaking way), then why should I stay here during the duration of the hardships just so I can see it better in the end? I just figure, for the most part, your nationality is just part of who you are. I'm American. I don't agree with what has been going on recently, but I've come to realize that it wouldn't be true to myself to pretend I'm not American. I used to think that America was just where I was born and happen to live. The non-Americans I knew in Japan would say that I was not a typical American (whatever that means - I don't wear a cowboy hat and have a gun rack in my pickup) but I do realize that some of my qualities are American. I'm certainly more American than I am any other nationality. So I guess what I'm saying is, if you're truly American, there's nothing you can do to change that, so figure out how to make it work for you. If you go to Canada or Japan or New Zealand or Belgium, you'll still be an American living in another country, so what's the difference. Don't think that living somewhere else will mean that you're no longer American. Besides, if all the Liberals leave America, all is truly lost. We gotta keep fighting and trying to make things right, even if we keep loosing.

We complain about policies, but don't do anything about it. We allowed the politicans to get away with what they have. I know I tried to play my role and go against it, but it seems that my input doesn't matter anymore. I seriously wonder why I should even vote anymore. None of the letters, complaints, criticisms, votes, etc. seem to count anymore. We just follow in a sheep mentality and listen to what the politicans tell us what's right and wrong. We as Americans have sold our souls to the devil figuritively speaking, and now we're paying for it in spades.

I know I didn't vote for the ***, but it seemed like I was outspoken by the sheep in society. The country wasn't bulit on the majority rules system, but Americans seem to thing otherwise. The majority does get what they want, but so does the minority. However, it seems that this time around the minority is getting screwed by our own selfish and moronic values. This country wasn't built on majority rules, elistism, or utolertian system of government. It is a constitutional republic, and I think that people have lost sight in that. Instead of a system that works, we're starting to get mob rule, and it's getting rediculous.

Why should I stick around for the duration of this moronic triade when clearly my vote doesn't count right now? Our president is a dumbass, and yet my opinion doesn't matter. Congress is supposed to take care of all it's constituants, but instead are going to for the select few now. This is complete BS, and I seriously don't feel like riding it out when my opinion in the matter doesn't count. It's just hopeless in my opinion. I mean we're going in the same route as Rome, and we haven't been around that long. We're exhausting ourselves and selling our power off just like England did with us. And guess where? China no less.

I'm just sick of the bad politics that our country is playing right now. Until we get our heads out of our asses I don't see it possible in the near future to fix the wrongs that have been done. We've given the finger to the U.N., pissed off the E.U., and trying to pick a fight with China. I'm sick of it. I honestly don't want to be around when the crap hits the fan this time. I don't think you're truly understanding what's going on. The problem goes much deeper than that. The problem is, the government IS doing what a (small) majority of the people wantand these people are morons. Blame your countrymen. I know you're frustrated, but this is no way to think. So the president isn't coming to your house and asking you what you want. Don't be a quitter. Support the people who are fighting for what you believe in. I support and have written to my congressman who has been vocally against the war since the beginning (Jim McDerrmott - who had an appearance in "Fahrenheit 911").

I question how serious you are about leaving. I once said the same thing, but it was because I was angry and frustrated (like you) and wanted a really big way to show how displeased I was. But then I realized that that wouldn't accomplish anything either. You think you don't matter to this country? Then what difference is it going to make to this country if you leave? If you're looking for a way to show your disapproval, do what I've done - write a letter, go to a protest and see how many of your countrymen agree with you, donate to an organization you support. But don't get all pissy just because you can't see instant results for your efforts.

Everyone in Sweden speaks English, and most things are pretty nice here. The only negative thing i can think of (of course there are other negative things, but they are propably found in most countries) is the high taxes (where the hell does the money go? Seems like the politicians puts half in their own pockets...well hopefully the current goverment will be replaced in the next election). But if you come here you better be prepared for that most peope here likes to pick on Americans (me included ), but i don't think anyone would say anything to you up front.

No country is perfect, no matter where you go, you're going to find problems, some equally as bad, if not worse than the country you abandoned, making you wonder (angrily in most cases) why you left in the first place. Contrary to that old saying, the grass ISN'T always greener on the other side of the street.

Like with all things, the current nonsense in Washington is cyclical. While the Republicans are busy smelling themselves right now, things will invariably change as things always do and they'll wind up on the outside looking in. You can bet the rent money on that. And anyone who things Jeb Bush has anything even remotely resembling a snowball's chance of getting into the White House in 2008 is delusional. What's more, the Terri Schiavo fiasco has exposed Republicans, especially Tom DeLay for the being the crazed conservative lunatics they truly are, and they're the feeling the anger from what they tried to in that unfortunate case.

But I don't worry about them screwing things up even further as there's safegaurds, thanks to the Consitution in place to keep things from seriously going south. I'm no more happy with the way things are being run than you are, Doc, but I refuse to cut and run. That's not my style. It's too easy to do that. I choose to stay and fight in any way I can to help effect change and hopefully, make this country a better place.

Sorry it took me so long to get back. Anyways, I'm not bashing you Doc! I share your pain, man. Don't take any of my post personal!

I really don't think Bush has caused anything. I see him as a symptom, not the problem itself. Iﾂ'd rather stay and attempt to fix the problem, even if the chances for success are low.

If America is getting to be not a nice place to live anymore, it's our own damn fault. Will the problem fix itself? I don't think so. If we want things to change at all, we need to stay and do it ourselves. The concept of running away when things get bad and waiting for them to fix themselves isn't one I'd endorse. However, I'd be lying if I said I haven't had similar thoughts myself. (Hell, I'm not even living in the US now.) I went so far as to get my status for immigration checked. But, I was ultimately convinced that keeping my citizenship would be best. Anyways, I apologize for getting way off the topic of this thread. If I had to pick a place to stay outside of the U.S., it would be Mongolia. (Based off the places I've been to.) If I got to choose a place I haven't been to yet, Patagonia has always looked promising to me.
