Spouse visa renewal

Here's the case; my Spouse visa expierce on the 16th of June, and I have to renew it.

I already had a look on some websites and found out that I need the following stuff:

Ask for a application form and the questionaire at the immigration desk than you need:

1) Copy of your spouse's Koseki Tohon (family registration)
2) An Employment Cerificate, Authorised Business certificate or company registration certificate.
3) Income-tax payment ceritificate, Witholding income tax slip. or Declaration of income tax return.
4) Gaijin card
5) Jumin-Hyo (resident certificate)
6) Passport

Does anyone know the name of this application form, and know if I can download it from the internet?

It's a certificate proving residence in the locality. So, you get it at your local kuyakusho. Very easy to get!

Actually, foreigners don't have a juuminhyou (住民票). Go ahead and get your wife's, though. What you'll need from the city hall is your 外国人登録証明書 (gaikokujin touroku shoumeisho), the printed one, not your card.

I can't imagine why some website told you that you need a document that under Japanese law you can't even get.

I think they're asking for his wife's juminhyo.

Since your visa is based on the marriage, you need to be able to prove that you're indeed still married. Just ask your wife to get a copy of Juminhyo along with Koseki Tohon. She should know what to do.

I just called immigration and they said that I need a letter of guarantee... Is that a letter as in a letter that my wife needs to write by herself? or is that a form that I can get at the immigration office or THE INTERNET

The format is not a requirement but is there for convenience to the applicant.

Addendum: The form is to be printed on A4-size paper and should not be reduced in size when printing.

Just a question the address on my alien registration card and my wife her Jumin-Hyo have the same address (which is the address of my wife her parents the Honseki), but we have our own apartment on a different address is that a big problem?

and do you think I should change that before I apply for my visa renewal or do you think that I can do that right after I renewed my visa.

Use whats on the forms now, but make sure you mail is being forwarded so you get the letter from immigration telling you the paperwork is done.

If you have time, get it changed now. I know the card only takes a few minutes to do, and the juminhyo should be quick too, and you can do both together at the same time/place.

Click on No. 1 if either you or your wife work for a company (or are otherwise employed).
Click on No. 2 if either you or your wife are self-employed.
Click on No. 3 if you're both unemployed.

Don't chnage a thing. If the address is the same as your wife, you won't have a problem. If you change your address on your alien card your wife will have to change her address on her jumin-hyo, which is something that should be avoided.

It is not as simple as some make out.

Anyone who has lived here a long time will know that changing address and having it recorded each time at the city hall leaves a big mess on your records. Most people leave their address at their parents house until they have well and truely settled down and either bought an apartment or a house.

A jumin-cho is a piece of paper showing where you live.

I'm applying for a spouse visa within the next few weeks.. been their before and it really is a piece of cake for the few bits of paper you have to supply.

You also need a guarantor so for me it is my wife's father. Waht are dad's for!

Have a look at the below requirements also available from your local immigration office in Japan or consulate/Embassy abroad.

You signed up to make a reply to a thread almost a year old and which added no new information? Welcome to JREF.

And speaking just in general terms here, relying on Japanese spouses to "know what to do" just because they're Japanese is not a good policy to follow. They're equally as susceptible to having either no information or mistaken information as we foreigners are.

Hi all,

I also would like to ask a question about renewal of a spouse visa.

I get my spouse visa for 1 year on March 2009 and started to live in Tokyo. I could not manage to find a job in Japan and looked for other solutions and I ended up in France for a year and I will be back in Japan on July 2010. However, my visa is going to expire on March 2010, and I am not sure if I can manage to renew it during New Year Holidays.
I would like to ask how long will take after applying for a renewal. Will it be possible to apply for it in France? When will be the earliest time to apply (in some answers it was mentioned as 2 month, but I am not sure if it is changed)

Renewal may take 2-4 weeks, depending on a million factors. Ask the Japanese consulate/embassy in France if you can renew there.

I decided to update this thread, as I'm about to go through these procedures.

1. The spouse's koseki toushouhon (family registration transcripts)
2. Zaishokushomeisho (Certificate of Employment, applicant's OR spouse's)
3. Nozei shoumeisho (Certificate of tax payment, again applicant's OR spouse's)
4. Letter of Guarantee (still not sure if that's needed for renewal)
5. Juuminhyou (kojin oyobi setai zenin): resident certificate
6. Gaikokujin touroku genpyou kisai jikou shoumeisho (外国人登録原票記載事項証明書, copy of the alien registration, as Mike pointed out, NOT the Alien Registration Card, but the printed version available at your local city hall)
7. Gaikokujin touroku shoumeisho (外国人登録, Alien Registration Card)
8. Passport
9. Revenue Stamp 4,000 JPY (Shuunyuu Inshi) once the procedures have been concluded
