The Rules for Translation Requests have been revised reflecting the recent spate of requests that were clearly not related to Japanese language studies.

Hello Venita,

Its a bit hard to make out the signature. I was hoping the red seal would give some hint. The name on the red seal (the three characters on the right of the seal) is Ippitsuryu "一筆龍". The three characters on the left side says "something print" (〇画版). I can't make out that first character on the left side of the seal. Could be "王", but 王画版 means nothing to me - maybe it means something to somebody else here. Ippitsuryu seems to be a school or artists, or a particular style (or philosophy, approach, genre). I don't think it is the name of an individual artist.

Usually its easier to figure out the artist from looking at the print itself rather than trying to make sense of the signature. Does your print look anything like the ones here

OK, it definitely looks like its from the studio at the link I posted. Your print/painting should be rotated 90 degrees so that the dragon's head is at the top, and the signature is at the bottom left. The left part of the signature is (I think) "Nikko something". (Nikko being the name of the city where that studio is located). I would expect the bottom part to say Koshyuya or Ippitsuryu, but to tell the truth it doesn't look like either of those options. There are 4 or 5 artists from that studio, and they are all from the same family. You could send them an email to see if they can help you. Their email address is at the bottom of the link here.
