question: Should Japan Be On The UN Security Council

My answer, it is long overdue. Economy 2nd strongest in the world. Look at France, what do they make ? Yet their on the UN Security Council.

Maybe why they are not on the Security Council, they don't really want to be. Too much responsibility (military issues and such). Security Council resolutions can be pretty hot-potatoe issues. Especially the Middle East. A lot of oil from the Middle East goes to Japan. Can upset some pretty oil rich countries vetoing or abstaining from votes on Israel. Just my opinion

Maybe USA wish that an allied power Japan will Join The UN Security Council.
but communism China and Russia dont wish it neither.
I think the UN Security Council can't make a contribution to EAST ASIA Safety.

I've always thought Japan should be on the UN security council. They'd be a breath of fresh air compared to the current five, as Japan seems to be far less of a warmonger. Also Germany should be considered.

As for France, the current five are all on the council as they pretty much *won* WWII (yes, even France) and are technically the only nations supposed to be allowed to posses nuclear arms.

2 things the 5 PERMANENT members of the security council have is:

1. all country's own a serios amount of hardware...and could if the other members didn't interfere quite easily take over the world...ALL are nuclear powers...and have some of the top military assets at thier disposal...Japan while it has a big economy has no nukes and no REAL army...Permanent security council members have to have the ability to get things done and comand respect...and that ultimatly comes down to being able to put a significant military presence on the ground....
ALL Permanent security council members have the ability to commit to millitary action on a global scale in a 24 hour timeframe.

2. the Permanent members of the security council are the Allies....there IS a reason that Germany, Japan, and Italy are not on it....

however just because Japan is not on the Permanent security council does not bar it from sitting on the security council...wich involves 15 member states

From a Japanese perspective, UN Security Council is not my interest as UN itself does not work out today. UN is already dominated by many strange countries, and cannot make decision at all. It is useless.

Plus, member of UN Security Council consists of mass-murder countries.

USA = needless to say....causing seamless wars and the world leader of inhuman acts, even today.
Russia = better than USA, but similar.
China = ongoing genocide in Tibet, Uighur, etc.
FRance = Dark history champion in Africa, typically Rwanda genocide
UK = always behind USA....

Japan should keep distance from those genocide club.

I think Japan does deserve a permanent seat on the UNSC, along with India and Germany.

Realistically this isn't going to happen. They have enough trouble getting 5 countries to agree, add in more and things just get more complicated. It would be easier if every country didn't have a veto of course.

WW2 is ancient history by now. Saying that Japan should be kept off the UNSC because of WW2 today makes about as much sense as if somebody had argued that the US shouldn't be allowed a seat in 1945 because of atrocities committed by US cavalry troops against native Americans in the 1870s. At some point you have to be able to move on.

as you know these 5 countries have a very dark past and present..
-USA,they still killing many Arabs and Muslims in many countries..so no need for explaining.
-Russa,you know how much people were killed by russa in the 2nd world war and how many muslims were killed by russa in many Islamic countries and other occupied countries.
-China,as Astro boy said,china has a black hand in west Turkistan ( uyghur ) and tibet..
-France,they killed million Algerian or so and many many Arabs in Egypt and other countries in Africa..

britain had control of palistine.... we gave ownership of it to the palistinian people..

then after WW2 the jews came along and after almost getting wiped out decided that they wanted their "holy land" and started to swamp it.

As long as Japan kowtows to US demands and does everything the US asks of them, both politically and economically, as they have done for the past 30 years, and as long as they continue to bow down to US demands that they abide by their US written constitution and allow the US to "protect" them they do not need to be on the UN security council as they are just a clone of the US and thus, there is no need for them to be there.

hmmm thing is Japan won't be 2nd largest economy for very long,

infact unless Japan either gets down to some SERIOS breeding, (unlikely)
or radically opens its borders and amends its immigration policy (hmmm even less likely)

then the fact that Japan has one of the longest life expectancies in the world, coupled with the lowest birth rate in the world...means that unless something changes in about 30 years japan will be nothing more than a foot note in history.

tho as japanese love tradition so much...perhaps they COULD save thier economy by reverting back to the tradition of taking the old people up a montain and then leaving them there to die

Just let it go...get on with your live in England...there are many other things directly affecting your life to worry about.

Back on topic: IMO, Japan should not try to attain such a high role in world events. It should just go with the flow and quietly become the Switzerland of Asia (small but rich) and reduce its role in the U.N. This would be much better for the citizenry. After all, it doesn't have an offensive military so it cannot project its power beyond its border. And Bush showed that the U.N. is not that effective anyway. It's irrelevant when the big boys want to do something against the collective wishes.

I say, let China take the dominant role in Asia but don't let it push you around--build your military--and get some nukes.

I would like to really add something here as to why Japan will NOT be a leader in Asia anymore, much as the US will NOT be a leader in the western world in the not too distant future, but I do not have the time right now. Suffice it to say, for your own information, I suggest anyone that cares or is interested in it, start with looking up the Trilateral Commission and following some of the links on Google. That will give you a start. The baton has now been taken away from Japan, which had it throughout the 70's (when it was first taken away from America with the demise of the steel industries) and 80's and most of the 90's till the "crash" and handed over to China, and Japan, following the tugging of the leash of the US, follows with no questions asked and the Japanese people are left asking, "what?" As America got screwed so is Japan feeling the same screwing today.

As much as many believe they should be on the Security Council, and I do agree it makes sense for the world's second largest economy to be on it, it will never, ever happen because Japan does not possess nuclear weapons and "they" will not allow it to happen. If Japan "grew a pair" and developed their own peaceful nuclear program it could happen, but I believe it is too late for that. Japan has sold their soul.

Back on topic: I still don't understand why Japan wants a seat on the Security Council so badly. Is it just for stature? Like having a Louis Vuitton bag? Forget the UN and lose article 9. Other countries, including my country, the U.S., are taking advantage of Japan because of article 9.
