sexy japanese women

are you trying to spark some more questions in kyoko's English turn of phrase thread, damicci? :)

hahaha

I hadn't seen that thread til you mentioned it. I am glad she is asking questions about these statements. I would hate for her think that the only thing we like about japan are the "hot women".:p

"What does this say about Japanese society?"
asian society period
my mandarin teacher says that she didn't know people thought she was attractive/beautiful/whatever until she came to america
and she says its also the same reason that foreign people that are non-caucasian get treated differently in china/taiwan

I think your mandarin teacher is slim? And not many people are slim in the US hence it is considered attractive? Also since they started to use East Asian actors more and more in American movies or series there seem to be more western people liking East Asian women.

How fat do you think we are? We aren't of typical Asian stature, but nor do we all stuff ourselves with fast food. In fact, in 5 year surveys, recently the US went down in weight.

Also, being overweight is considered quite un-attractive in Japan... so, being slim is looked at even more as an asset to beauty than it is in the US... If anything the opposite of your statement is true.

Well in comparison to Asians' average sizes the US's people's sizes are definitely larger. Since there are lots of weight issues being brought up in the internet over the years until now that means the weight problem issue is still there.

This is also a statistical fact from many articles I have read. I am not attacking the US here. If the US people are slimming down as you said that's good news but I haven't heard of this yet until you said so.

I notice when something is rare in a country it somehow becomes popular. I happened to have an aunt who has the experience. In Taiwan she is just another slim woman on the street but in the US she is often praised by her Caucasian male friends or clients as the sexy slim beautiful East Asian woman. She is very popular in her working environment, this was not the case in Taiwan.

I find many japanese women very sexy - but not the men. Maybe it is because I am a hetero man?

Anyway I have often heard japanese women complaining about the japanese men. Maybe I sould start a discussion about the men - but on the other hand they do not interest me.:-)

Budd, where have you been for the past ten or fifteen years of healthfood crazes and all those people jogging and going to the gym five times every day? Yeah, we got fast food and weight problems, but don't forget that bulemia and anorexia are huge problems among American teens, especially female ones.

This actually happens all of the time. It isn't necessarily because she is slim. It is more likely because she is foreign. American guys find foreign girls attractive because they are mysterious and interesting. They can also be a refreshing change of pace from American women, because they have different expectations and needs, and offer different things in return. Appearance is a factor, but that is because many American women/girls dress similar, and someone who wears clothing that is different or carries themselves in a different way is unique and that is usually seen as a good (or at least interesting) thing in the U.S. Not to mention foreign accents are often considered sexy.

That's a good point. Yet even in Japan it is not uncommon to see, at least during the daytime, the hoardes of OL's all pretty much dressed the same way.

For me even after 20 years of living in Japan seeing Japanese girls and women day after day, and being married to a rather petite (153cm 47kg) woman I still am fascinated by them.

OLs?

By the way, reminds me of the whole ganguro(?) girl phenomenon. They look like girls in the US I've heard called "stellas" or "glittergirls". Despite their Japaneseness, they remind me too heavily of the hordes of vapid undergrad Paris Hilton lookalikes I see at my university.

Ugh, Paris Hilton. What a waste of air time.

Anyway, OL -> Office Lady -> a female clerk/secretary.

As for sexy Japanese women, If you see a girl wearing a dress AND tennis shoes, she's Asian. That's hot to me.

Glenn, what is UP with you profile picture?!

I've seen white women wearing dresses and tennis shoes before.

Um, what do you mean by that? Anyway, I think I explained it here.

I don't know, every time I see a girl wearing a summer dress over a pair of blue jeans, she's Asian... same thing w/ Dress + sneakers...

I didn't see a big explanation... no big thing, but your profile picture appears quite more feminine than your other pictures. If that is you, then KUDOS, for flipping the script, as they say in the street.

I am just taking a wild guess but is the girl in your avatar ツ渉ャツ青シツ真窶愿樞?敕シ(Konishi Manami)?

OLs either have to wear a uniform or have to wear neat office wear, which is a suit. And the same as men, suits all look the same. Nothing amazing here...

You are quite right, it really is not a big thing here, my response was to this quote below, thats all.:-)

Yeah, I'm sorry, I'm just giving you a hard time... its just that female avatars for male forum members always puzzles me!

Cute though. ;)

I am just showing off my gf that's all :-)

OLs are a novelty to me (even in the US) because I live in a college town, not a city with big business. So they are pretty hot. But I guess if I was bombarded with them every day, they'd get old. It's kind of like the sexy librarian or nerdy girl look. It used to be unique, but now girls are copying it all over the place.

What a waste of air, period.

Well, I just didn't want to take it too far. I was originally thinking "waste of life...."
