My friend and I were having this arguement on weather samurai X and Rurouni kenshin are the same thing or totally different elements of the series.

I knew it! We were discussing Rurouni Kenshin because we were watching at she said she'd want to watch Samurai X and I said it was the same and she kept going on how it was different.

Which "Samurai X"?

Actually, I think that there's a Japanese O.V.A. series of Rurouni Kenshin that was named "Samurai X". From what I heard, it took place when Kenshin participated in the Meiji's Restoration and it's quite violent.

As for the T.V. series.

Well... The originial T.V. series and manga series was named "Rurouni Kenshin". "Samurai X" is now becoming the international name for "Rurouni Kenshin", how far it different from the originial would depend on the ones who edited and distributed "Samurai X".

Is it true that only the first part of the TV series remained faithful to the manga ? I heard there was no "christianity story arc (plot)" on the manga. Also, OVA 2 is so sad. By the way, how do the Japanese call OVA ? Is it OVA or OAV ? I tend to see those terms to be interchangeable. 😊

In Europe I've never heard of Samurai X either. I think this title is only used in the US, but I have no idea where it comes from. Maybe they thought that a series called "Rurouni Kenshin", since very few people would understand the meaning, wouldn't sell? :?

You know it well
It is an original of the TV series after SHISHIO.
As for TV series, an animation manufacture company is different in the first half and the second half.
:sorry:
Work: Studio GYAROP(one to TV66 talk):studio Dean (67 to TV94 talk)

OVA? OAV?
The abbreviation for OVA original video animation.
A meaning is the same although it may be written as OAV (original animation video).

Sou ka. I did not know about the episodes being produced by two different studios. Thanks for the information. 👍

yeah, and I just recenetly bought the entire Rurouni Kenshin anime series for $53 (canadian) off ebay, What a deal!

I knew that Studio Dean was doing some episodes but I have no idea Studio GYAROP was also in it. Interesting...I'm quite glad I'm a collector of the manga as well...ifr it leads to different Elements in the anime then in the Manga, Watuki Nobuhiro mention about him having no say in the anime.

Also, at some point...I believed the OVA's were called Samurai X but I still think it's just the North American name for the anime.

I believe maybe the two names were used because the ova was released by adv and the tv series was released by animeworks?

Samurai X... Kenshin kills :devilish: ...and has sex :D

No... that's not my real reason actually... it's much more emotional and like the style better. :-)

But the whole Shishio segment of the series was awesome... :p

Rurouni Kenshin & Samurai X, they r the same but i THINK that Rurouni Kenshin was the original japanese version, while Samurai X was the translatted version

Gun Blaze West, i noe that, NOT one of Watsuki's best...i think Rurouni Kenshin is the only anime that Watsuki made that became popular

ShiShio is a freakin canniable...sick...he bit Kenshin, I was angered.
yeah, I believe it's only the translated name for the series, as alot of North American people wouldn't know what Rurouni Meant, which forced them to make an American 'friendly' title. Most likely to cause confusion, like it did for my friend.

And they say learning Japanese is difficult!

Are you asking if it's going to rain? Perhaps you mean whether. Apologies if English is your second language.
And if you are referring to Kenshin-kun I'm sure you don't mean wether which is an old sheep!
haha only having a laugh :-)

I still haven't watched either of them so I thank you for the names of them i have been trying to find them on line but couldn't remember the names
