Hello,

I would like to request help translating the kanji on the tang from a Japanese sword. I see the third kanji as 'Kane' but am struggling with the rest. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Matt

中野?貫
The third kanji might be poorly carved 兼. (The rest are far easier to decipher.)

Toritoribe,

Thanks very much for the prompt reply and your help. Would that translate to Nakano Kanenuki? Or would the last kanji be 'kan' instead?

Thanks again.

The most probable reading is Kanetsura.
A swordsmith 兼貫 (real name 中野栄三 Nakano Eizō) was in the list of swordsmiths in Seki in 1939. I can't find any of his real inscription, though.

Thanks very much. That is very helpful and with a few quick google searches I see you are 100% correct. I appreciate your help.
