Reading material in hiragana and katakana

Sorry for opening this topic, but i couldn't really find an answer for my question, so the thing i want to ask is if you could tell me where could i find reading material in hiragana and katakana, can't read kanji yet, although its not a difficulty to look their meaning up probably, it might be good for learning their meaning.

Well. . . that is a hard question. It is a bit out of place in that it's not a question about Japanese, but I do understand your situation.

Please keep checking on the net for books, and I think someone will come along that would be in a better position to help than myself...I'm just too busy to much these days. I wish you luck in finding some kind of book, or textbook--which I think would be much better.

It might be good to try to check out some university book stores in Hungary first, too.

Check out the Japanese in 20 Weeks site that is talked about in a thread in the 'Japan On the Web' fora above. It may be a big help too !!

You are looking books? In my thread someone recommended some manga kids book. It won't have any kanji but it will have kana. At least thats what they said

yesasia is the only site i know of that sells manga books in Japanese. Other then that i have no idea.

Go to your local library. When I first started learning Japanese, to practice reading, I picked up a baby book all in Japanese, but it helped me practice reading Hiragana/Katakana, even though I didn't understand. It had kanji, but it had Furigana... So, try that

Get yourself a good manga. Most manga that has a possibility of younger readers will have furigana. There are many, many to choose from. Just pick one you like, flip through it and see if it's got furigana, and if it does, have fun.

Haha if i could i surely would, but you know im living in Hungary, comics here equal Marvel and nothing else, is there a webshop thingy like amazon or ebay that ships worldwide?

You could try the Japanese amazon site. The site has the option of changing some of the pages into English, but if you are used to using amazon it is fairly easy to get around even if you do not read Japanese as Amazon layout is standard despite the langauge.
I do remember once seeing a partially printed book once in Kana that had been used for packaging. Looking at the pictures on it I assumed it was part of a sheet to be used in a book for very young Japanese children, so I think such books are available.
