I think you meant to say じゅっぽん or juppon.hachi kara jū Except in the case of that sentence, the jū kind of combines with hon to become jippon. So, "hachi kara jippon". Slightly confusing, but no need to get stuck in the weeds yet.

Oh I see, more foreign influence means more Katakana. Gotchya. I'm going to be the cool guy and use as much Kanji as I can, bwuahahaha.Katakana represents sounds. Since Japanese these days borrows a lot of words from non-kanji-using languages, the words are written in katakana. So in short, it's for the loan words from English, French, German, etc.

You're right. I should consider them for sure. Haha there are so many short hand katakana things I have seen!Not the accent I was expecting (based on all the Holy Buckets interjections) BUT you're an "influencer" so I'd still apply to those shows.
Katakana is really helpful for us learners since they use so many English words just pronounced differently. But sometimes they are abbreviated or the meaning changes so you do need to treat them as unique Japanese words. Though I do wonder sometimes why they use the foreign words to such a great extent. Did they really not have the concept of inflation? They use インフレ for that. There are many examples.

Trust me, you do not get extra points for using kanji over katakana. There is nothing cool about it. In fact, its the opposite of cool. You out yourself as a dweeb who wants to (try to) impress people with your kanji knowledge, when you should be aiming for maximum natural fluency, maximum natural literacy. Every professional field uses a ton of katakana, because that is what their peers/clients/constituents use and understand. Dramas and songs use a ton of katakana, because a lot of influences come in from overseas, and it is cooler to use the foreign word than it is to make up a kanji equivalent that will only sound weird and out of place. Japanese is a great language because it has a kind of built-in flexibility due to katakana, and the number of katakana words will only grow larger. Embrace it.

But its better, and 100x more understandable, if you write テレビ rather than 受像機, or エレベーター rather than 昇降機.
